CFA Scholarship

I think its bullshit. CFA is professional, scholarships IMO detract from the prestige of getting the charter. If you need sponsorship, get your boss to do it!

Are you seriously telling me that if you were in my shoes you would have said, “No thanks, I’ll pass on the fee waiver and pay the full amount myself.” Even though it would change nothing except your bank account would have a few hundred fewer dollars in it? Of course the reduced fee was an incentive. It changed my mind from “I am likely to take this exam” to “I am definitely taking this exam.” Then I passed and gave CFAI ~$700 of my money to take Level 2.

Anyway thanks for allow my replying to trolls quota for the day stormy.

So you would support increasing the cost of each exam to $5,000 and annual dues to $1,000 to increase the prestige of the charter? Of course all increases would be retroactive, so if you just took L1 you’ll be getting a bill for the balance and I’ll receive a bill for my exams and past dues as a charterholder. Anyone who cannot pay or chooses not to pay will have their test results voided or their charters revoked.

i can think of several off the top of my head who dropped the designation to save the fees while they were getting their own businesses up and running. it happens.

I know quite a few as well, especially here in India. When I needed refererals I had a hard time finding anyone who was actually an active member. Most get their charter and let it lapse here.

^ I can understand if some let it lapse, but “most let it lapse” is surprising to me.

My 2 cents:

My original plan was also to let mine lapse, as it doesn’t cost anything extra to ‘reactivate’ the charter. Plan was to activate it only if I needed to (i.e. looking for new job, need the networking opps, etc).

Having said that firm is currently covering the dues, so why not.

That’s not what I’m saying at all. If it did actually cost that much, I might have a different attitude regarding scholarships. But as it is, the price is high enough to make candidates fairly serious about it, and low enough that anybody who’s qualified (read: paid thousands of dollars for an undergrad already) has the resources to pay for it themselves.
