Hockey, those are all great points. However it’s also worth considering that some people are fixated on their own beliefs, however unfounded they are, and there’s not much point in arguing in these cases.
As Numi points out, what really makes a school is the people you meet. The quality of people I met and am still friends with today I sincerely doubt I could have found at more than a handful of colleges in the world and certainly at no corporation that I’ve seen. I’m talking top to bottom quality. I go out in NYC with the corporate lawyers and bankers and various fashimarketising girls, and despite all their money, degrees, and credentials, they don’t come close to matching the intelligence, sense of humor, passion, and humility of my friends from freshman year. So yes, I’d also have to disagree that college students don’t know crap. The insight that I gleaned from my classmates when I was 19 year old is head and soldiers above what I find on Wall St. on a daily basis. But again, I think this is a function of where I went and the quality of individuals that I was lucky enough to meet.
Great attitude. Good luck with your career! ancientmtk Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > i think school matters. ok some points were good but the bottom line is where you went to college doesnt mean jack, it only gets you in the door. When I said that I obeserved people from non top 10 schools and their hunger, they were obviously the exceptions from those non top 10 schools…But I have already seen many such exceptions. Because even if there are 1% such people in these non top 10 schools, they still comprise a lot of people…Their hunger to me seemed more, you guys can argue your case as you are entitled to do so, but often in life we believe what we see…and I just dindn’t base my case off a few people but rather I’ve interacted with many people…Still, my view is biased just as yours is attending a top 10 school… There are many articles on this, and I’ll post on from the WSJ : http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB115853818747665842-ZqcThW_76BozMT1wgzstA1afvh8_20080510.html With a few exceptions or claims to such, most people from top 10 schools make up a strong view of people from non top 10 schools and how they are superior than them. You dont have to explicitly tell someone something. Its pretty obvious. Working at a HF, in my fund we have close to 10-15% from pedigree schools, thats it. And we are one of the top 10 funds in the world in size and performance.
