Yeah, not being a wuss is key. That’s a lot different than whipping out your cock and trying to intimidate people. I agree not being a wuss is important.
Yes, that would make a big difference. I think the only reason I brought it up is because I’ve met with some rich and powerful people, and I’ve never really thought about making a billion a year. At that point it is kind of silly. Sure, several HF guys do that every year (typically not consistently) as well as some other investment types and some business owners. I guess when you say that someone is “making” XYZ it conveys that they will likely continue to do so. I suppose it shows some bias I have that once a person has more money than god, I really don’t think about their annual earnings anymore. I mean, guys like Carlos Slim, it just doesn’t make sense to think of it in those terms to me.
Whatevs, I agree. Rich a$$ homies are typically pretty calm and collected, especially in investing. I also like do adopt the laid back approach, typically with ankle on knee and paper, materials whatever resting on my thigh. Obviously, I adapt this accordingly.
Ray Dalio was as well, and obviously Paulson and Jamie Simons. It’s just really hard to do that consistently. I think that of HF managers, Simons has probably had the most consistent earnings…seems like I read that he makes $2B every other year.
BTW, good post. Enjoyed the read.
Edit: Did some quick research. Simons earned over $2B in 2008 and 2011. The below is what is listed on Wikipedia. Pretty impressive when you see that consistency. That’s a money factory.
“In 2007 he was estimated to have personally earned $2.8 billion,[14] $1.7 billion in 2006,[15] $1.5 billion in 2005,[16] (the largest compensation among hedge fund managers that year)[17] and $670 million in 2004”
That’s not at all what I am suggesting you f*cking idiot. What I am suggesting is making people uncomfortable or acting like a tough guy makes you look like a joke. Especially considering the data that was posted out here on the last salary survey.
^I have to agree with Blake here. Deliberately trying to act like a bad MF makes you a DB.
However, I disagree with him that high salaries make for bad MF’s.
Money. Heh. Salaries. Heh. A bad MF seeks not these things.
EDIT - I do find it rather odd that Blake (of all people) says, “You fking idiot. Making people people uncomfortable or acting like a tough guy makes you look like a joke.” Something rather ironic about that.
I would love to see what would happen to you if you went around making eye contact to everyone in a - uh - more urban setting. Try being alpha when you’re getting your ass kicked.
