com banking will also be good exp for ER since you do modelling, and for IB

Try MD or DO. A doctorate won’t get you very far with a tranny - how far you go with a tranny is up to you, though.

I’ll second what others are saying about loan size, etc. Commercial banking deals can range from small mom and pop businesses to middle market to the large syndicated national credits. If you are working in the large corporate deals then you actually may get a chance to work with IBers, which would allow you to make some contacts.

I have not read any of the posts in here but I will say Commercial Banking is for homeless ppl. That is all.

It seems to be that the US definition of commercial banking and Canadian are different. In the US, from reading leveragedsellout it seems commercial banking in the states is retail banking in Canada. I graduated last April and I have since been working in commercial banking and for the most part have had a solid expierience. You definitely will not find the intensity of IB in it but putting together and $25M hotel deal can still be fun. I’ve found that I have had a lot of responsibility early on and now take the lead in all analysis of deals. Like the other posters if your doing smaller loans I would steer clear, we have a group that does that and it seems like they are little more than glorified car loans. To the OP, you will find little to no help in moving into portfolio management however the work can give you pretty specific expierience in certain sectors, along with the modeling and DCF work can help with ER or IB I would imagine.

Thanks KF. This was the type of answer I was looking for. So I guess what it comes down to is the size of the deals. I’ll be inquiring more into the position…
