I walked to the gym and the college chick at the desk gave me band aids and cleaned me up a lil bit - she is sweet.
Adrenaline completely worn off - I got hit under my lower teeth by a bar on a metal fence. Almost lost my lower teeth. Feels like shit, but I think just a heavy bruise.
Bone bruise and chunk out of elbow. I can’t do elbows on heavy bag for at least a week or elbow planking. Bone bruise on middle knuckle of right ring finger with a small chunk missing. I can still do fist planks, which is essential for me.
Ill probably get home in an hour or so, I have to uber back, interested in seeing this video.
Damn, the impact shorted out the chip or something. There is a 45 minute gap in footage. wtf!! I don’t like that at all. Makes me nervous about a real car crash. Shit. Ok. At least I got that guy to pay for the stuff. Already implies guilt. I wanted to see that video though, was ridic. Hmm, I’m looking at the files now. It looks like the footage might have been there, but I turned the camera back on to capture our conversation and I only have us walking to the bike shop on video. By the file labeling, it looks like it re wrote over that footage on the chip. I carried my bike on my shoulder for over a mile in bike shoes. This dude is lucky I’m such a reasonable guy. Not only that, but he took a phone call conference call for work or something for 10min when we were walking. Hes a lawyer or in finance or something related. I almost wanted to tell him to just write me a check for $500 bucks for dealing with all this BS, but just let it go at the bike repairs. I guess next accident I should just leave the camera off after impact? It got knocked and shut off. I would prefer to capture everything that happens after the fact as well though. I might send Cycliq a message to inquire as to what happened as this could be the difference between a good civil lawsuit award and a mediocre one. If I lost my bottom teeth, I’d want some serious cash on top of just the health bills as that is a pain. I like my teeth and stuff…
Did a 50miles ride on Sunday morning - out into the rolling hiills of essex - it was incredible. My max speed tipped at 37mph on the downhill which was so much fun. Got back into the house a 11:30am.
I’ve signed for a 100km sportfive which goes into Wales and has 4000ft of climbs… not too bad for a 100km… But coz i’m heavy AF it will be knackering!! I really wonder how i’ll do compared to the group. I’m gonna have to sit in the peleton for most of the ride.
I’ve also signed up to a Track introduction class at the Olympic Velodrome. which is like a couple miles from my house. I reckon my body and power is much more suited to shorter distance sprint rides… I’m sooo looking forward to getting on a real velodrome track… In the shadows of greatness there.
Rim blew out Friday on Eleanor (Trek Madone 5.0). I was only 1/3 into my workout. I was really depressed. I decided last night, I would find a way to get a beater bike going by this evening. Fully set up, perfect angles and everything. Meet Backup Brenda. She’s real sweet. Rode her over 20mi today and developed perfect angles over the day. It took an hour of eyeing my Trek and comparing and then some minor adjustments here and there. My center of gravity is significantly higher than on the Trek. I feel like the wheels are closer together. I can dance on climbs on the Madone really really wide (side to side), but Brenda likes to keep things nice and tight. I still can dance and mainly do - in order to work different muscle groups and avoid fatigue. She takes fatter tubes and the skinnier ones don’t seem to work. I was talking to the guy about this when I bought it and he said she is really picky. It kind of looks like a fixie bike that got amped up to become a road bike, with a vintage flair. Its very clean and neat. The Madone is just a beast. Frame feels completely different, I have very different poses and style on the Madone. Brenda can turn on a dime though, that is crazy. Its cool. Had fun today, despite hours of going to different shops to get specific tools and research different bikes, as well as emailing craigslist. I had my eye on a Cervelo and a Shiv (both tri bikes), as well as a Trek Speed concept, but for once was reasonable and got a good deal on a decent bike that will serve its purpose (I don’t need to pay for 2 carbon fiber frames at this point, I think one is enough), it had different pedals, no tubes, and I mounted a bunch of stuff, an extra cage, pump, blowout kit and my Cycliq front and rear cameras as well as front and rear backup lights. Even with all that stuff though, it still looks super clean. I’m exhausted. 0-100 real quick. I accomplished my goal though and in general do not like the feeling of waking up in the morning and not being able to ride. I had a Trek mountain bike that needs a tune up, but I really needed a backup roadbike and am stoked I found this one as it is very unique/cool/angles are legit.
These were the ones I was looking at. I actually got the Jamis for $275. It was $349 marked down $20 bucks in the store and the guy said he’d give it to me for $329 on Monday with the Tubes and ready to go, or I asked for a price for today (without the tubes) and he said $275. With tax, it was $299. It was slightly risky buying it without riding it, but worked out.

The Cervelo Soloist was next on my list if this bike didn’t work out. It was $1K more, but I felt it was pretty hard to pass up with those components. If I couldn’t find a bike by 2pm or so, I was going to go by that guy’s house (very near me) and check it out. I emailed him to say I was interested and he said he wanted straight up cash. So in the end saved $1K today as everyone who cycles knows how easy it is to get sucked into upgrades at times. With that being said, my shoes and cameras on there are 2x the price of the bike. lol.
Cervelo Soloist - sick

Cervelo R3 (really light)

The Shiv is a killer. I didn’t live near this guy, but it was definitely appealing

ace you scaring me bro, it looks like you are training to be a serial killer
I’m absolutely and completely obsessed with cycling right now. I’m finding passion as well as improvements that I have never encountered in the sport, specifically in climbing. I would love to do a climbing race. My physique is not typical of a climber, according to one of my old trainers (ultra race guy / full iron man hawaii spin instructor dude), but somehow I make it work. 2 weeks till 9/9!!!
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
get someeeeee
I should have both bikes up and running tomorrow, fully tuned, ready to go. My Trek is at the shop waiting to be picked up. Apparently the spokes were loose and warped the rim. Odd. They had to true the rim and tighten the spokes. I just got it back from them on Wednesday and only put 120mi on the bike, but it was really wobbly and eventually started hitting the frame. Now that I have two bikes, I can give some muscles a break if I get fatigued on the setup of one over the other. Also, as I’m starting to get to the point where my miles will get nutty, it is imperative I wear the proper equipment (bike shorts every ride), so as to completely avoid saddle sores or fatigue just sitting (even though I don’t sit that much). So in addition to the Zoom shorts I have, I decided to get another pair of Tri shorts for training (I wear them under board shorts), and heard the De Soto Rivieras were good. These are coming Tuesday. I should be doing hard 2/days by Tuesday and really need to be giving all that I can for the next 10 days. I can’t miss a training session, if both bikes go out, I have to go into the gym on the stationary and use my Shimano shoes and just suffer in an empty room until I get those sweet sweet results. Here are the De Sotos, I did a bit of research and people say these are really good. I have found especially with shorts/tri shorts/bike shorts, its best to get good gear as a stray inseam will light your nutsack on fire or something if you buy the $30 ones instead of the $130 ones. I bought the Zoom ones I have in 2007 and they are still going strong. Very durable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4L04MX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I could wear these in triathlons as well, they look awesome. This week is going to be great.
My morning ride today (Session 1) was with:
-
Back 24oz: frozen mangos, 100% beet juice, 100% carrot juice, fresh spinach leaves, almond butter, Vega essential mix, maple syrup, medjool dates
-
Front 24oz had all coconut water and a splash of beet juice
Was pretty good. I’ve been going out with 48oz the past couple times instead of 150oz, especially on the heavier bike. I usually have one 24oz of mainly hydration and the other one is geared towards calories. I don’t drink all of the calorie one straight up, but drink some, then fill up with water, then drink more and pour a little into other, and mess around and mix them at times on water breaks (there is a water fountain at the base of the bridge on my repeats). I have chugged 24oz of the calorie one on certain occasions in the past, but that is a signal to me that I am in a calorie deficit (or approaching one) and alerts me that I need to make a food stop in a short amount of time. That calorie shake was missing something this morning, it wasn’t sweet enough or needed some acid (I don’t buy orange juice), so initially added dates and that didn’t do it enough, so the maple syrup was a nice finishing touch. I think I might start adding maple syrup as much as I can, because I really like the calories from it as well as taste and is a great source of Manganese, which plays a role in energy production and antioxidant defense.
finished the day at 58.3mi, total calories for day: 5,431 all on a $275 steel frame the Jamis I’m getting to like it though. One of my strengths is throwing these very explosive pumps that just cuts into the steel. I mean the steel is so heavy I go into 23mph or something on the flats and then cruise @ 21mph. Pump pump pump 23mph … cruise @ 21mph… I kind of like it. With the carbon fiber it just loses speed so quickly that you have to pump on a more regular basis.
Also, though it makes me not want to lose speed on the steel. With the carbon, if I lose speed, meh, power transfer is so high, I’m back to 25mph in three or four pumps…
Also, I’m really feeling cycling gains lately. Tonight, I got a bunch of PRs and 2/3rd places in the wind on times I hit on my carbon fiber in regular conditions. Thats pretty fucking insane. Maybe I am a better rider on steel, I don’t know, but I think when I get my carbon fiber Madone back from the shop, I’ll be setting the road on fire. I’m currently going for 8x bridge repeat KOM and am in 7th place at about 50min with KOM at 42min. I haven’t run this course light once and if I really want to test my time I can take off my pump and blowout kit etc and time my water/nutrition, but I’m not taking off my aerobars. Also, the KOM dude was the first guy I added on Strava. I started posting high mileage and he took me off his ‘following’ list and also I saw he is in a “KOM Defender” club, so will likely try to rebut my time if I can beat him, but he is very far ahead of me right now. I’m not sure how he got so fast on this course, but I am confident I have a chance.
haha igor says that with <3
obsessed.
The only way champions train.
