My friends call me johnny dangerous, but my close friends call me big pete. I’m looking for a nice little spot with lots of danger , preferably including jungle men with machetes who can run faster than I can to make things interesting. I will have to use my tree climbing abilities like a puma at night to avoid injury. I would like to kill my own food using only a ballpoint pen. I have a Mont Blanc pen that has only been used to sign killer contracts, but I feel my killer instinct in business would be improved if this pen was used to stop a mammal from breathing followed by me tearing apart its raw flesh. Any recommendations? I would prefer hot locations as I’m planning on jumping out of a plane with just a parachute and my pen in boardshorts. I don’t want to pack boots. I thought about brining a canteen as well, but that would be too easy. It is best to make one out of an animal bladder.The highlight of the journey will be making my way back to civilization.

Yeah, that sort of thing. There are some pretty good documentaries on the “Raskols” i.e. local gangs in Papua New Guinea. In some areas, the state of lawlessness is so severe that the local police are afraid of the gangs, and gang members will cut off your arm to take your watch (even if it’s what most people wouldn’t consider to be luxury by any means). I know this sort of stuff happens in Venezuela, outskirts of Brazil and at the Mexican border too, but it just seemed a bit more extreme in Papua New Guinea.

I guess I should add Iraq and other areas of the Middle East to the list, but these places seemed too obvious to mention.

Just about every major US city is safe if you know what you’re doing. I hate St. Louis but even that hell hole is perfectly safe if you stick to the right areas. If you wander into east St. Louis…RIP in pieces.

Chicago is probably a better example. One of my favorite cities. Also a war zone. Just be sure to keep your Google Maps setting to “avoid ghetto” and you’re golden.

I’ve been told that Brazilian gangs don’t tend to target tourists, since whoever controls the gangs derives economic value from tourism. Don’t do anything because of what I said though…

A friend of mine got robbed at a gun point in Brazil once. It was done so quietly and efficiently that her gf who was on the phone walking right behind her didn’t even notice right away what was happening. She (my friend) went back to Brazil a few months later with no issues. I had no issues there either but almost got robbed on the L train in the Williamsburg once. You just never know.
