Do you owe your kids an education?

government doesnt. top marks on an exam should be the sole factor. less bias. that being said exams are easily gamed, which is why people who are rich typically score higher on sats. btw pay is a terrible measure of who is successful.

lastly smart and intelligent is same thing to me at the very least. elaborate if u want to change the definition.

Some people feel that intelligent means more academic types of learning and knowledge, and say that “being smart” can include things like street smarts and things that incorporate more emotional intelligence.

However, I agree, that this is not a universally agreed definition, and if you are going to use it that way, you should be more specific about that.

Yes–studying for a year with a $1,000/hour private tutor so you can score 1600 doesn’t make you smart. It doesn’t mean you can think critically. All it means is that you’re good at taking the SAT (or GRE or GMAT or what have you).

Agreed. There’s a lot more to life than just your paycheck.

Plus, the size of a person’s paycheck isn’t even necessarily indicative of what they had to overcome to get there. If I may give a sports analogy-- Peyton Manning vs. Michael Irvin. One is a pedigreed blue blood. The other is a mongrel that, statistically speaking, probably should have never graduated high school.

the smartest should get scholarships but not from the government necessarily (ie GI bill is legit) the rest should pay for it - we have some of the best schools in the world - it is worth it

furthermore, the best professors are EXPENSIVE. I’m talking any school any teacher or coach in academia or sports ---- you have the ability to affect people significantly. Gov. salaries will not attract these people. The high costs of these professors are one of the main factors that make tuition costs high in the US.

Tuitition costs are high in the US because the money is readily available to any idiot who wants it, thanks to the government.
