Do you regret that you didn't go to Med School?

I regret that I did not become a doctor to pursue my dream to connect multiple humans’ digestives systems together in a chain.

If OP gets -5 votes should I lock the thread? This is insanely stupid. This thread makes me want to stab someone and then play around in their blood.

yep its rough.

“Too many OB/GYN’s aren’t able to practice their love with women all across the country.” - Bush Jr

I’m afraid it’s the only way to prevent the continued descent into disgrace of the WC. Lock it up! Lock it up!

Lol

“Have you ever heard of a White doctor?”

If the AMA wasn’t allowed to control the amount of students medical schools can accept, then the market would achieve equilibrium thus increasing number of doctors and reducing their earnings potential…in aggregate. What strange form of socialism is this that only works in one direction, to bias doctor’s compensation higher? No discussion of healthcare reform is complete without visiting the issue of how we let this market achieve equilibrium without simply importing doctors from abroad.

Seriously I’m pretty sure doctors from abroad are low quality too.

Without a doubt, US has the best healthcare in the world - for rich people. It’s more or less how everything works here.

I’m not sure that’s true, even for rich people. It depends on what ails you. If you have cardiovascular disease, like many Americans do, the results posted by cardio specialists in India far outperforms US. This is because Indians have extraordinarily high rates of heart disease…so their doctors get a lot of practice. Want cosmetic surgery? Try South Korea for the same reason. Rare diseases, exotic cancers, etc…definitely the US has many of the best specialists.

lol you dont have to be rich to get the best medication. you literally need good insurance with 0% payment after your deductible. the larger your insurance, the more choices you have. so imagine if we had single payer. then there is so much purchasing power that we’d bend all the healthcare professionals over. im pretty sure in most of those countries, anyone who is reasonably smart will head over to the us. cuz this is where we got cash $$$

Single payer would also attract doctors who actually care about healthcare, as opposed to people who just want to make bank.

this will creat scarcity of specialist. I can care leas if doctor wants to be doctor or they are in for the money as long as they are honest, dedicated and highly skilled

Doctors working for NIH in UK or Canada are still rich, so as long as medicine remains a certain path to upper class, there won’t be shortages. If there are then we can import doctors, like we do today. You should reconsider your criteria, if someone is in any business just for the money, you are unlikely to get honesty and dedication. Buffet always says that what he looks for in candidates is brains, drive and integrity, because if you find someone with brains and drive but no integrity…he will bankrupt you.

When I was doing this route, I wanted to be a plastic surgeon so I could try to make as much money as possible.

im conflicted. plastic surgeons make people more beautiful. but if it is not natural. imagine marrying a very beautiful woman then having very ugly offspring. it would be outrageous

holup, this was discussed here. Wasnt there a case in China like that

I’m sure it happens, but apparently, the case that went “viral” was a hoax and ruined the life of the model in the picture.

Yep, was fake news (probably CNN)

Yeah, but I think I will go in my 60s. I’m very interested in the field, mainly psychiatry. Going to 4 years of med school and 4 years residency just doesn’t work for me right now, but hopefully by the time I’m a bit older, I will have some passive investments that I can somewhat step away from or step away from active management in a company to go to an email based communication in med school and residency if needed. I can’t really do that now. I would just like to have a private practice in my 70s and older for psychiatry in which I only take on a few clients, but will be able to practice for probably 30 years as I think I will live to be very old. This is a keen interest for me for the latter portion of my life.
