Yes, tell that to the tax-and-spend dems who apparently refuse to touch their sacred cows (SS,medicare, medicaid). In what world can we be on the path to reducing our debt when 70% of govt spending can’t be touched? in addition to lumping in more spending.
I don’t take part in the whole “republicans vs democrats” thing, don’t see the point. The USG just keeps getting further in the hole no matter who is in the big chair. The fact is the cuts Americans would have to endure cannot be fathomed, like the Greece thing, nobody wants to face it, and they aren’t being forced to, yet.
What matters about Trumps billions – he is dishonest and doesn’t care about anyone but himself. How did he come out with so much money when everyone else lost their investment? Because he’s a financial criminal, barely on the right side of the law. Not good traits for a leader.
I find myself agreeing with purealpha. How weird is that??
itera’s complaint about Greece is that those nasty Greeks didn’t pay their taxes, so they deserve to collapse. He then goes on to say that the U.S. will become Greece if people here are made to pay their taxes.
Anyway, The Donald will presumably force all non-white Americans to return to their lands of origin, so perhaps it’s time to purchase transport stocks.
or how about digging just 1 inch deeper. greece rich paid 10% taxes. and that’s IF the income was reported at all. Which normally wasn’t. Not to mention the many other tax cheats the govt happily turned a loose eye away from. gee, look at that. .
I support him because he is the anti establishment candidate… I despise career politicians and most of the other candidates have done nothing outside the public sector. Jeb Bush is nobody without his daddy and Hillary has been planning a white house run since 1992. She stayed with Bill after Lewinsky scandal to better her career… No integrity
The federal government needs to take a long hard look at Greece and Puerto RIco, two very timely examples of states that are essentially financially F*&%ed. It’s like Greece got this bail out, and in 2-3 years they’ll need another one. Sometimes you need to just let them die their own natural financial death and start over rather than keep trying to keep putting a bandage over a gaping bullet hole.
As far as entitlements, I view social security as just another income tax. By the time I reach retirement age I’ll likely either a) be means tested out of getting anything, b) not living here any more, or c) the whole system is bankrupt and there is nothing there.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. The reason why debates like this get so heated, and why the country is so unsustainably morphing into a more extreme left wing/right wing barbell, is because of this foolish need to be “for something” or “against something” with the ferocity of a zealot. It reminds me of the idiotic fighting between fans of two rival sports teams, who are drunkenly beating each other up in the streets over some dumb sports argument. For what?
If we are going to use the argument of “successful businessman can apply his supposed business skills to running a country,” wouldn’t it make more sense to hire the quietly effective corporate prototype, who cleanly executes business decisions from behind the scenes, and not some lump of cotton candy and dentures with a bullhorn and a penchant for buffoonery?
This is not ‘lack of political correctness’. This is him being a bigot playing up cheap stereotypes in an effort to grab votes from idiotic White guys who think all of America’s problems will miraculously vanish if the illegals are deported.
Flipping a finger to the establishment is all well and good but he is not going to ‘Make America great again’ despite the soundbites. He’s a slimy, selfish piece of shit who’se in it for himself and the Republicans are sinking to all time new lows. Attacking a veteran while deferring the draft himself inviting criticism from his own party should be enough evidence that this idiot has no concept of political diplomacy and what it takes to get things done at the international discussion tables.
Ill never understand this notion that veteran POWs are immune to criticism. No one cares about veterans 98% of the time, but if you say something bad about one, the world comes to an end
I’m not sure it’s really possible to elect leaders with no ideology. Ideology is basically the framework that undergirds ones assumptions in areas where you lack more specific knowledge or experience. Given that we can’t know everything, and often operate only by applying imperfect models, the process of choosing which models to use is almost inherrently ideological. Even to the extent that one model “fits the data better than others,” the choices of what are the definitions of fit, and what “slippage” is considered acceptable are also decisions that need some criterion, and ideology is basically the only tool available to an individual.
Perhaps the best we can do is to have leaders that look at data and are willing to entertain or even change their minds in response to additional knowledge: in other words, modify their ideology in response to data. However, the political system tends to regard this as either “proving that you were wrong in the past, and therefore are suspect of being wrong in the future,” or “going back on promises and therefore being unreliable.” So there’s something in the institutional structure of politics that favors doubling down based on ideology rather than considering evidence and adapting to it.
The ability to ask yourself “what if my assumptions are wrong?” is great for trying to reduce the effect of ideology on your choices, but it doesn’t make for a convincing electoral campaign or passing the scrutiny of the appointment process.
You really like Trump lol. I just was posting as it is interesting how it changes as they are both interesting reads. It does say something about his character though. I’m not sure how much though, other than he puts on a good show
