Equity research associate

perhaps…but Im not worried about him I’m worried about who esle they’re bringing in…

at what point after is it okay to call the employer and check on the job status?

First year Associates direct from business school (MBA) receive $100k base at the bulge bracket banks in NYC this year. Signing bonus may vary, but base is pretty standard. For the past few years, the base salary was $96k.

I just want to say for the record that numi was 100% wrong. I got the job. Comp is much higher than what he’s been saying.

^ I’m glad you got the offer and got paid. However, just because you got paid a certain amount based on your qualifications doesn’t mean that’s industry standard. Anyway, I might have been “100% wrong” about what they paid you, but considering the only thing I know about you is that you’re some random user on an internet forum with a lousy attitude, I really couldn’t care less.

It has been my experience that recently the base numbers I’ve been getting are higher but the bonuses are usually less certain. It’s an optics issue: need to reduce those wall street bonuses or else the g’ment and main street will keep hollaring about it.

ok

This is so incredibly infuriating. I have a friend who worked at DB in IBanking. The guy is a total moron, but just because he was in IB he leapfrogged into asset management with 0 experience or CFA…

wow, nice friend u are…

Hi, can we get more color on the hours involved in equity research? I’m prepared to work 7:30am to 7:30pm M-F during non-earnings season and whatever it takes during earnings season. I’ve heard from some 2010 MBA grads that 100K base is common for associate positions in sell-side ER for NYC.

You just described the hours perfectly. I’ve heard 65-75 base for Baltimore & Philly with 25-35 bonus for first year hires (no prior exp). Quickly rises to 120-140ish total comp within a few years. No idea on NYC.

^ I would like to know as well.
