Boring list. Top party schools like the University of Florida are not in the top 50. Sad, truly sad.
“Dad - I got into MIT, Stanford, U of Chicago, Brown, Dartmouth, and Wabash. Forbes says I should go to Wabash.” “Well, son, based on a Forbes recommendation, I used all your college fund to buy AIG at 80. Go figure”

I actually agree with you. Although I don’t agree with the outcome of this list, I do appreciate having this list to make comparisons against the “standard” ones floating out there.

NYU - 324!!! It just gets better and better… JoeyDVivre Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > “Dad - I got into MIT, Stanford, U of Chicago, > Brown, Dartmouth, and Wabash. haha - one guy’s comment at the bottom: “Reader Comments Posted by brettpholmes | 10/28/08 02:37 PM EDT Whoever created this list probably did not go to college.”

Cool, I grew up in Palo Alto… I knew it was a good idea to go to Pomona! Now I have proof! (btw, Pomona’s acceptance rate is a little less than 99%)
Wabash is 12, this is insane. I could understand DePauw at 47 much mroe than Wabash at 12. Purdue is at 487, so I guess it doesn’t matter that Neil Armstrong went there. Georgia Tech is 501. Makes perfect sense.
Check out the poll as to “the most important part of a college experience”. Sex is edging out Classes in the number 2 spot.
With uncorrelated high profile rankings chancellors and presidents can choose their own ranking to emphasize. University administrations must love this.

the overall list is hilarious. worst one i ever seen. the public one is spot on…
this sort of reminds me of WSJs first B-School ranking that had harvard and stanford outside the top 20. it is so outside the scope of reality, that it becomes worthless. at least businessweek and US news pass the eyeball check. when it comes to specifics (i.e., 1 vs 5 or 8 vs 12) the lists are somewhat arbitray, but at least directionally accurate.
So rank these: Julliard, MIT, West Point, UCLA, Pomona. Nobody in the history of the world has ever applied to all 5. In fact, it would probably be hard to find someone who had applied to more than 2 (UCLA and Pomona probably happen).
My university is not even on the list. I guess i am special like dat!

Brilliant engineers, nobel prizes in multuple fields (including finance) and fantastic job placement doesn’t amount to $h1t compared to RateMyProfessors.com ranks.

but was all-schools major so took about half my classes on your campus. Good times.
I will enjoy posting this list around the office. My school is always punished in the US News reports because of low levels of alumni giving. That’s what we get for sending all our damn students into the Peace Corps.
I think it is the % of alumnae that actually contribute(i.e., any$ amount qualifies as participation), not how much… even peace corp volunteers have to get jobs eventually. still think alumnae participation is a strong indicator of how graduates feel about the value of their degree and their experience at their institution.
