Future Value: Is $50,000 is too much to pay down on a car? -

Thanks skillionaire for your response… I forgot to mention that I’m not from the USA …In my country (in the Caribbean) a brand new Toyota Carolla retails for $125,000 and that’s just the basic model… also our exchange rate is 6:1 USD and inflation is currently 9%, so our standard of living differs significantly from you guys in the states. While I love the snark (sarcasm)… I appreaciate responses that actually pertain to the question presented. Thanks much.

amber202, can you please post a picture of yourself in the beautiful Caribbean…maybe down by the beach? JK

$125,000 for Corolla? damn!! why don’t you just have one imported for you from the States? There are plenty of shipping companies you can find online that would even do all the paperwork related to customs for you. I mean here you can get it for around $30,000. Shipping is probably 2-3K and I can’t imagine your customs duties being 3x the value of the car… Correct me if I’m wrong.

you missed one key point- our exchange rate is 6:1 USD puts the car a little under $21k USD

probably true. but my point remains… importing a corolla from the US is not an arbitrage opp like mayhem was trying to imply once you factor in the exchange rate.

T&T has an exchange rate of $6.25/USD. I think amber is from there. Their per capita is US$19,700, so my BMW 5-series analogy is about right.

if my point remains. and your point remains… that makes 2 remaining points… check out those math skills in action.

nola, you’ve gotten quite clever over the last few months. all those sharp points are intimidating!

someone had to take over that role when you disappeared

Forget the car, buy a cat instead

Ok, I want the truth now – when you were informed of the $2000 treatment costs on your 14 year old cat, did you ever think about the $2 injection instead.

nilay, you’ve obviously never had a pet.

You are right lola, but in my defence I’ve never had $2000 as well.
