Garage Gyms

#freeBS

who here is so not surprised that the gym had an american flag? do americans put that thing everywhere?

do you guys workout like this also?

It’s from Rogue equipments website…probably ex military.

But, I agree the flag display in gyms is out of control.I would have the pelts of my vanquished enemies. Metal AF.

What’s the matter, not a fan of the old red white and blue? And lady liberty? Apple pie and hotdogs?

It’s tim kennedy’s gym man - if you look him up hes a proud american.

The same question applies to other places tho. Why does every mma gym i go to hang a brazilian flag, boxing gym have an irish flag, ect.

yeah mma gyms always have a brazilian flag

So DOW, I’m finally getting around to building a basement gym and can’t decide between RML 390/490/690 on an 8x8 self constructed plywood platform (with TSC stall mat strips down the side). The system would be bolted down to the platform. Do you think the 490/690 will be oversized for the platform? Do you do all of your squats and heavy work inside the cage? I’ve always just squatted outside the cage, dumb question but am I doing it wrong? In this case I guess a bigger rack that uses up more of the platform makes more sense?

See my reply to you in that dumb eggs thread. I’m confused as to if you have ruled out the 690 (and I see now you will be bolting to wood anyhow), but I don’t think the 690 will be oversized for that setup. I do the squat work inside the cage. Mentally it just feels better to me, and the J-Cups and safeties can work in tandem. If you ever need to bail going heavy, I would not be ashamed of an appropriately low safety bar.

You squat without safety bars BS ?

Yeah, I never bail or drop weights since I don’t go for single rap maxes. I’m more of a 3 sets of 10 generic lifter.

I normally do 5x5 but even when I use light weight I use it. Seems like a pretty minimal precaution that can have huge benefits if something unexpected happens. I also workout solo though so that may be different

I don’t use safety bars. I sometimes have a spotter, but it’s pretty easy to bail if necessary. I do drop weights since, for example, I could crush my vertebrae bringing a heavy overhead squat back down to my shoulders to rack it.

Yeah, so if I had to I would drop the weights, but that’s the point of building the platform. But honestly, I typically squat within a certain ability, I’m not a big time power lifter. Once I hit a certain base level I tend to focus my gains more on other areas of my workout like cutting down my mile times and just maintain my lifting with the occasional bump up when necessary.

It’s funny the psychology of lifters with their preferences. I personally cannot squat in a cage or with safety bars, i tend to him them on the way down with the bar, and more importantly, I like the extra motivation of no security (although I will bail if need be so disregard the logic there).

Anyway - back to my gym which i moved back into the garage bc wife is setting up some nursery shit in the 2nd bedroom and we had to make the 3rd our guest room, as if we can afford kids … back to the important stuff I have a century corner-man heavy bag stand and a 100lb outslayer heavy bag. Recent additions to the backyard include my beloved atlas stones. I have a 50lb, 115lb, 185lb, and 225lb. Been eying some tires at a nearby shop and possible sandbags… The next stage will be developing a mini zen garden for meditation, and or, some mushroom quests.

Jesus Christ, I got the guy in the other thread trying to buy a home he can’t afford and you’re trying to have kids already lol. Don’t Do It! Seriously though, once you make that move things are forever different doesn’t hurt to wait.

how much do kids cost on a yearly basis. just curious.

I don’t know how to quantify it but it’s exorbitant. For starters I used to live in a 1 BR, now I’m at a 3 contemplating moving to a 4BR for more visitors. In addition you’ll buy in a high income neighborhood with astronomical property taxes because of the schools. I know friends near NYC that moved to basically the same home paying an extra $30k a year in property taxes just for the school district. So that’s a huge initial factor. Then you have either daycare which is like $60k a year or something or if your wife doesn’t work then you add another dependent complete with car, insurances for everyone. I mean, I honestly you start adding in all these kid things and parties and stuff you never even knew existed then if you want to go get a dinner that’s an extra like $200 for the sitter for the night just to go out. The department of Ag says $14k per year per kid but that is a national average, realistically I’d say at least twice that to as high as $100k if you’re trying to do the whole putting your kid on a pathway to go to Andover / Exeter thing.

hmm interesting. definitely cheaper to raise them in philippines.
