FWIW, on the research side it seems that a CFA is more than enough to offset the lack of an MBA, but I don’t know about on the IB side. The only bankers I know that have made associate w/o an MBA are those that were promoted from analyst (the very good ones that for some reason didn’t go to PE). I’m sure there are others, I’m just not aware of them.

I have the same observations at FIAnalyst…I don’t think the CFA is a “substitute” for an MBA on the banking side, so if banking is what you really want to do, I think you’ll need an MBA to mkae that transition.
