This ends the argument http://www.fedjobs.com/pay/pay.html Undergrads start at GS 6 or 7.
At one point during the crisis, weren’t they talking about hiring “experts” for the SEC? That is, ex-finance people who actually know what they are talking about. A relatively high salary was implied.
I think there is a different pay scale at the SEC. That chart is pretty standard for all of the other agencies, though. I interviewed to be a financial analyst with the VA’s loan mortage unit. I have a masters and they would have started me at $45 in a city on the lower end of the COLA scale. Oh yeah - the fed pension isn’t what it used to be. Its not a full “work 25 years and get 50% of income” deal. I forget the number, but it was in the vicinity of 1% per year of service. I forget the number because after they told me $45K, I became disinterested.

Accountants in corporate finance division are easily making $100K after 5 years experience and starting from $60K working for the SEC, pay scale varies significantly though with these type jobs.

Well done.

I think they were offering something like $180,000 salaries for the very top tier, 20+ years experienced professionals in the private sector. I mean, come on, that is a raging joke. Even guys like numi pull down more than that.
What is the minimum number of paid days off a year in the US and Canada? Is there a minimum? I won’t tell you what I get as it might make you guys sick. Vive La Belgique! (actually a Dutch speaking company but that’s not so catchy) I believe Japan is also pretty bad for paid leave.
My company pays us back for days off that we don’t take. It’s the equivalent of getting bonuses but no paid time off. I haven’t decided yet if I think this is a good or bad thing.
