how do so many people fail?

I am kind of shocked to see that, I mean 59% (looking at the chart)! Relative to U.S and UK it is pretty low. I am sure that’s not even the recent one. Its probably even lower now.

Wow, if I understand intewig’s post correctly: All of mainland China had only 248 L3 test takers, of which 153 (62%) passed. China’s population 1,326 million people. 1 test-taker per 5.3 million population. 1 pass per 8.7 million population All of India had only 133 L3 test takers, of which 96 (72%) passed. India’s population 1,140 million people. 1 test-taker per 8.6 million population 1 pass per 11.0 million population. The US, by comparison had 5,391 L3 test takers, of which 3,720 (69%) passed. US Population 304 million people. 1 test-taker per 56 thousand population 1 pass per 82 thousand population.

Hi, look at me, I have a masters in finance and accounting and how can anyone think this exam is so ridiculously hard. I dont get it bros.

look at me? it is not like anyone is bragging…this is an anonymous message board. think about it.

On exam day, in my section there where 108 seats. I estimate that there were at least 800 people taking the exam. I spoke to one of the proctors and she said that every seat in the place was paid for, yet in my section at least 40% of the seats were empty. I wonder if the pass rate includes the % of people that pay and don’t show.

Well the jerk store called and they’re running out of you. (just kidding)

yea well I slept with your wife

You skipped over, “What’s the difference? You’re their all time best seller!”

His wife is in a coma.

I don’t know whether its only my observation… I was taking this test after a gap of two years… Last time i studied hard and couldn’t pass it… this time though for some reasons i could study for just one day…couldn’t even revise subjects like economics… but surprisingly paper looked so easy to me that i feel i am very close to passing… Is it because CFA standards have gone down… or the ignorance bliss on play

In my case, if I fail (50/50 chance) it is because of being under prepared as I expected a lot of the content to cross over with my undergrad commerce (accounting/finance) degree (which it did) but my econ and quant skills had gotten fuzzy since I covered the subjects 3 years ago. I’m reasonably sure I killed FSA and did above average in the remaining sections.

Also if you are that smart why do you need CFA, just get into Harvard/Wharton/Columbia, nobody here cares about CFA.The point is that you are not that smart as you are trying to be. I can tell you ,I know a plenty of guys who cracked CFA Level 1 in 2 months time , CFA Level 2 in 4 months starting from nil background/work ex in finance. These guys are going to give you a tough time in Finance, if you manage to work with them.

wow guys. I don’t even know what you are talking about. My post was asking how many people without finance backgrounds were taking the test. From what I could tell, nearly everyone in there had extensive finance/accounting backgrounds. I was not asking (nor do I care) if you have friends who are smarter than I am. I never said I was smart and trust me, I would have gone to Harvard if I could have (I couldn’t). Columbia doesn’t belong in the same sentence with Harvard and Wharton, btw. And the reason I am doing the CFA is that is tough and demonstrates motivation. I don’t think I said that the test was easy. The pass rate just seems ridiculously low based on my observations on exam day. Later.

Here’s how I look at it. If you assume a 40% pass rate for the December exam, you simply have to be in the 60th percentile or above to pass the exam. Making it into the top 40% of everyone in the world who took the exam isn’t such an awful hurdle, is it?

please tell me you’re from tampa
