How do you deal with getting layed off in these times?

CFAvsMBA, your posts are always either insightful, hilarious or both. Are you even black? Well even if you’re not we should definitely go play tennis in Harlem one of theae days. I know of some pretty sweet courts up there.

Are you saying that DC is full of riff raff, or is this something that is just unique to DC culture?

I said you was old as fuck! stop talking like you 20

DC is pretty hood. Even a handfull of blocks away from the capital is shady territory. Not one of my top 5 places to live.

@CFAvsMBA, you haven’t been to DC is years, apparently. The amount of development going on in DC is crazy! You’ll be throwing down serious money to leave blocks from the capital.

When was the last time you were in DC?

Sorry dude, what area were you working in, and any reason you know for your dismissal? I feel the market has improved substantially in the last 2 years though.

Are you suggesting a black man cannot be insightful, hilarious, or both? You know what, I’m gonna back up my boy CvM, I think you should keep your opinions to yourself. devil

Well, since my age is out, it’s been about a decade since I’ve been to the capital. Back then, even as a built black guy, I was warned to not stray too far from touristy areas there were high crime areas just outside where attractions are. I may have been misinformed as well.

Palantir, what are you talking about? How do you figure I was suggesting that (for any other reason than your being completely daft)? How do you know I’m not black? Give me a break kid

Relax, I was kidding.

They’ve been doing some quarterly dismissals across the board. Any overlap in job functions (I had two overlaps) and mainly because our net interest margin is pathetic and not getting any better until 2015 ish, and I dealt with our cash portfolio.

Stayed inside all day with the lights off. Feeling like iron bars in a prison. Didn’t speak a single word aloud today. Applied online to two positions, but this is really going to be a ‘gotta know somebody’ thing with smiley face confidence networking. I gotta try hard to avoid the spike in anxiety which will spiral into all out major depression. If that trap gets me, I’m deeply screwed. Couldn’t even eat all day. Tried to eat a bacon eggncheese, but took one bite only. Thought looking at porn might help, but it did nothing for me. Added to my short GS position, hopefully if it turns out by Oct expiry, it can pay a couple months rent.

CFAvMBA, we’ll defintely meet up over a brew… I need industry help from a veteran… walls are closing in on me… bro…

^ Take a few days to lick your wounds. You’ll be alright.

Trust me you come out of it a better man. Try not to care so much… yeah you have to earn a paycheck, but don’t let it bring you down. Take a little time to get out of the house and do some things that make you happy and maybe you haven’t had the opportunity to do. It will make your job search efforts more productive to clear your head a bit.

CFAvsMBA is asian…

Okay man, I’ve been there, and I definitely understand that it’s a bummer. I’m going to give you some advice because I legitimately want to see you do better, so don’t take this the wrong way:

You need to man the f*ck up and stop the emo crap. You’re not the first person to be fired and you won’t be the last. Noone shot your dog or stole your wife. Somewhere in the world some kid is starving or some bull sh*t. Now turn the lights back on, take a shower and start getting on the networking and applying. Watch “The Pursuit of Happiness.” Meet up with every professional contact you have for a drink or a coffee. Don’t mope, use the time to talk about life, family, sports and finance. Be excited and get them to plug you for a job. Expect things to take 4-8 weeks.

^ motivating

Wow, and I thought you were angry and depressed before today. If it helps, consider that even if it takes a while for your income to rebound, you’re still probably a lot higher than average in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

Also, I would recommend not making risky trades for now…

I would do what BS said, but would have left out that last line. The hiring environment may have improved from the bottom, but it’s still really sh*tty, no point in sugar coating it

And I would do what ohai said, now is probably not the best time to make risky trades. I would be very conservative with investments.

Sorry to hear this Lockeheed. But you were talking of wanting to leave, if I remember correctly. If you are prone to depression, than do things that will fight back before the urge is too strong. Mass text your friends, hang out and relax. Go work out. But if you let yourself spiral downwards, soon the force will be much harder to fight.

Good luck

Oh yeah, and work out a lot. It helps.

Stop trading too. The worst is to trade when you need money. It will cloud your judgment.
