I’m having a day like that today. I did go for a run in the park for about an hour, and that helped a lot. Not practical for everyone, but it worked for me.
Numi, I hear you. Couple of things that can work: if you’re trying to just get through the work day - try switching your routine. The goal is to distract yourself from your slump. Put on your headphones and listen to music/podcasts. A quick band-aid is to switch work projects. Also, routine change is great. Like you, I haven’t taken a vacation for ages and I now I’m off to Europe for a couple of weeks and can barely wait. That’s not good enough, though. Like you, I spend a lot of lunches at work - powering through projects or just surfing the web. But, I think a proper break can revitalize your day. Switch off the screen, and open up a travel book to your destination city. Try and take full use of your lunch break 1-2x a week. Go out! Do something completely different. Change locales where the crowd and the mood is different (eg: where I live, I can take the train and hop over to the shopping district where no one is wearing a suit). Doing something kooky like yoga over lunch also breaks up the slump. I think if this is a more systemic issue you’re having, you might need to change your routine outside work hours as well. I hope that helped even slightly, keep us updated on this - maybe something that works for you will inspire me! (PS: while your holiday is far away, see if you can take like a day or a half-day off during the work week and then just do something completely different).
You guys should be grateful you actually have jobs. I wake up at some weird time every day and i just think “should i just go back to sleep to kill a couple of more hours?” because seriously… every day is just as boring as the last. No matter how many pages of CFA i read, how often i go to the gym, how many times i apply for jobs, its always the same… nothing. At least you guys get to interact with people… you ingrates!! sincerely, emra32.

I’m on an open desk all freaking day sitting side by side with my boss- the only separating us is a Bloomberg Terminal, and everyone can see my computer. I can’t even go on to this site without being ballsy when my boss is in a meeting…praying no one walks behind me.
