how good are stalla video lectures

Schweser video’s are indeed the worst that happened to CFA. After watching Peter… you need nothing but more of Peter… If he is not there for L3, well… Then I am selling Stalla short (naked).

So it’s only Ben Jones and David Heatherington tag-team for L3? …crap… I am otta Stalla’s cap.

the reason i used schweser was because they are widely avaliable. I was able to purchase off Ebay for cheap. Buying direclty from Schweser or Stalla can be quite painfull

Ok. Swaption … Scheweser for Level 2 wasnt that bad… I agree the Brit Guy for accounting is no match for Olinto…but I found Andy Holmes and Equity Guy great…The just kick ass … The Brit guy for Fixed income is ok but not great… but fixed income is not that hard at level 2 anyway…Corporate Finance and Econ lady Susan Sucks at best…

David Heatherington did most of the L3 videos this year. He is worth all the money you will spend on this. comprehensive, tells you what you need to know “no excuses” and most importantly, effective. Olinto was effective for L1, but I can see why he wouldn’t be for L3. its just a different test. Passmaster was horrible for L3 Stalla. I took L1 once with Shweser and didn’t clear. Then moved to Stalla and cleared each level on the first try. Coincidence? maybe. But frankly, I underestimated the test when i took L1 the first time. Good luck!

Does Stalla list down the name of the instructors for each video series? I used Stalla video lectures for level 1 and 2 and I have to agree that while Peter Olinto and David Hetherington are awesome, Ben Jones is mediocre at best. For the 2010 version, how many percent of the video was done by Ben? Thanks.

i don’t have an exact figure but I’d say it was roughly 75% Hetherington 25% Ben Jones - all the heavy topics done by Hetherington. Passmaster was horrible, but so was Qbank in my opinion at level III.

Anyone wanna swap videos? One buys Schweser, one buys stalla and we trade and watch em? I don’t think its unethical to watch a friend’s video assuming we don’t copy…

It is nice to hear that Ben Jones is only doing 25% of it. Is there a way we can find out which instructor is doing which part before we buy the video? Thanks.

^^^ Agree. Hilarious description, and spot on about Ben Jones. But David Heatherington is awesome. He’s not as fun to listen to as Peter Olinto, but he does a great job of getting the essentials across and giving you context for understanding why they test what they’re testing and how it fits into all the things you need to know.

Ben Jones is a moron. I can’t believe he even had all those creditentials. I guess it is possible to be just “book smart”

I was at her class in NY for level 1. I did not like her a bit either. There was nothing she told i could not learn myself from the books except for her own personal experiences.

They are horrible!!! Stallar/Becker is good at CPA, but SUCKs at CFA. they emphasis A WAYYYYYYYYY too much on something is “secondary important” topic. They will totally mess up your study Strategy. they are not focus on the “big picture” like Schweser. I used Stallar/Becker for CPA. and used Stallar for CFA L2. Trust me, they sucks! Schweser is the way to go.

How good is the schweser video series for level 3?

Schweser was good - not as good as Andy Holmes, but once you got used to Bruce Kuhlman’s style, it was pretty good. Plus, he gets distracted sometimes and draws smiley faces in his zeros while he’s talking… funny.

I do agree Ben is pretty horrible at teaching compared to Peter and David, but I wouldn’t call him a moron like how I called dualbond. Peter is very engaging, and David, while not as enthusiastic as Peter, is also very good at teaching effectively. Both Stalla and Schweser have pros and cons, but neither will help you pass if you don’t spend enough time, or are simply stupid. I always laugh at those who blame the study materials after failing.

It shouldn’t be that funny

Not trying to be obvious. But you still have to go through CFAI books if you want to increase your chance as passing this thing. As I look back to the questions asked in the exam, I can honestly say that if I didn’t read the CFAI books I would be even more at lost. IMHO… vik2000 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > JP_RL_CFA Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Ben Jones is a moron.
