"Huge earthquake hits Iran, hundreds feared dead"

After reading that, I became curious about Yahoo Brazil. This is what it says, using internet translator:

"You know the underwear on one side only?

French store creates innovative ’ underwear ’ with very little fabric and that promises less bother" “BH neo-Nazi te represents? Skinhead was stopped after get known on Facebook; anonymous full of anger have the same speech” Not sure exactly what the second one is about, but evidently involves skinheads and Neo Nazis.

Ohai, this is why I get all of my news from you. You’re my hero!

We’re sorry.

The second one is about a kid that choked a homeless guy with a chain and posed itt online like it was a cool thing. This kid is a neo-nazi, which seems to be a relatively small group that hates everybody non-white, and apparently everybody that likes skates, or maybe just everybody…

The regular skinheads say they just want shaved heads and weird clothing - the neo-nazis shave their heads as well and so people associate both groups. The regular skinheads obviously don’t like that.

A little more on topic, Brazil do care way more about local news, but as for international ones US has a pretty big edge, while big parts of Asia are almost ignored. For instance, the Boston bombs made covers, but when a train crash kills 200 people in China or India you can check it at the bottom of page 9.

US may enjoy a cultural edge because of the movies, TV series, etc, but I think the main reason is that the press just wants the easiest job. It’s easier to translate english news and put them on your paper. If you want x-copy Reuters you’ll find more info in English as well. As Ohai pointed out, as long as you make it entertaining, most people don’t care so much about which news they read.

Edit: Ohai, I’ve just found the underwear piece, with pictures, and I hate you for that! If anybody still wants to see a male wearing that you can click the link…

Nothing to be sorry about Crazyman. I was trying to point out that every country focuses on the domestic news and I see nothing wrong with that. “Big” international stories get some mention and then every country moves on to its own news pretty quickly.

Human beings are inherently programmed selfish…

If problem occurs in another country, we all first look for whether I know anyone in that region. If not, do my friends know it. If no, then is my countrymen affected… Otherwise we shed crocodile tears for a week or so - thats it.

I am not saying thats how we should be, I am saying unfortunately thats how we all are…

^For a week or so? More like for a second or so.
