Failed. Band 8 (as if that means anything). Strongly reevaluating my desire to become a Charter holder. I put forth a lot of time and energy preparing and I’m extremely disappointed. Trying to keep it in perspective, but part of me wants to grab a baseball bat and just start smashing sh*t. To those that passed- Congrats

Time heals all wounds by the time February 2012 rolls around and you crack open those books, it will all feel like a distant memory. And by the time June 2012 rolls around you wont even care about what happened last time. Dust yourself off, and get up again.
To those that have failed and are really struggling with it I have a question. Did you expect to pass? I failed and I am disappointed but it was June 1 that I realized I was not going to pass no matter what I did. June 2 & 3 were extremely depressing. Today I got what I expected, and obviously I"m bummed but no slitting my wrists because it was expected. So what’s your deal?
Before giving the exam, i kept hoping my preparation would be decent to h elp me on day of the exam. But after giving exam, i was SURE, that i was going to fail. there were topics that i STUDIED HARD AND COLD that i couldn’t understand or BLANKED out on exam day. so today when i got a fail result it wasn’t a surprise at all. but i got band 7, which was surprise cuz thats a 2 bands above my expectation.
Take it easy Cleo. Life is too precious, take failure as challenge.
Failed at band 6. And I don’t feel sad. Definitely retake it next year. I didn’t study much, only managed to flip through Schweser once. I passed L1 in Dec and knew I would have been busy during the period but went to take the exam anyway. I only had 1 week off in April before staring my new job and 3 days before the exam. Didn’t do any mocks and left the exam hall early. After a while at work, I recognized people don’t really care that much abt ur qualifications. Of course it may help a bit but ur work is still the most important. My friend failed level 1 twice. But she is working at a hedge fund earning twice as much as most of us. So I guess to a certain extent, it just doesn’t prove much.

Miss, I failed last year and that was pretty much my first fail in my academic career. And guess what? After few days of down mood, I slowly came out of that loss and enjoyed myself like never before. You know why? Because that pressure of being perfect all the time and acing every test was off me at least until I re-registered. So, Im sure you will start chilling again in just few days.
Failed too, first attempt feels so sad, but was so expected, taking into account a couple of busy weeks at work right before the exam… brrr Books are not good for preparation, i think i should try something else next time, taking more tests seems to be the key…
Nothing to add. I think Band 8 is fair. Definitly impossible to pass if Ethical is below 50%. Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 18 * - - - Corporate Finance 36 * - - - Derivatives 36 - * - - Economics 18 - * - - Equity Investments 72 - * - - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 * - - - Financial Reporting & Analysis 72 - * - - Fixed Income Investments 36 - * - - Portfolio Management 18 - - * - Quantitative Methods 18 * - -

I’m leaving nothing to chance AT ALL. If I fail this test again, my job is gone, and I’ve got to find a new career, so I’m leaving no bullets in the chamber.
MissCloe, I think you take it too seriously. Control the exam and don’t let it to control you. Being a Chinese who have lived with endless brutal exams since 6 yrs old, I can tell you that in many cases you fail not because you study too little but too much. Why not chill out and go back to the books when you are mentally back in shape again? I failed too this time but don’t mind taking it again. Actually I do need to study it thoroughly to grasp the knowledge which I never learned in my formal education. Cheer up.
Band 8!! But I expected that considering I spent the last two weeks before the exam in some happy daze and didnt open a book once Ah no use crying over it now, im just going to forget about it until its that time of year and myabe give level 2 another try, this would be the first exam i ever had to repeat in my life… so to the CFA I say a kind f**k u. P.S MissCloe … Seriously!!! Relax, I dunno have sex or sumthing, there is more to life…
To the above posters, I am just not as intelligent as either of you. You can study barely for 1 month and almost pass. I need a full year to get to the almost pass. Consider yourselves lucky.
Miss Cleo, i know it hurts right now, and im sure you are just saying this because you are pretty darn upset right now which i truly understand. You have two choices, either you forget about the CFA, or you come back next year with a bullet proof strategy to extinguish the CFA level 2 exam. some people pass this exam in one month, some in 2 weeks, however i consider them outliers, and i cant ascertain whether they passed because they are GENIUSES, or because they got pure lucky. what im a 100% sure of is that CFA level 2 is a seriously sick and demented exam, and from day 1, i knew that the only way to pass it was to be dead serious as to how i approach this thing. no excuses.
I wish there were a bullet proof strategy, but the thing is studying for 1000 hours doesn’t guarantee a pass. I’d gladly give up my life savings and saw off my hand with a rusty blade for a pass. Unfortunately with my level of IQ bulletproof doesn’t exist

Cleo, You got to read Outlier book.

I’ve read outliers and find it to be crap honestly. Basing everything on where you were born, and not IQ is silly.
Its more about how much effort you put for preparation. Intelligence matter, but perseverance and persistence leads you forward. I seriously doubt when people say they cleared the CFA exam with one or two months preparation. Go back and search the forum, how many of those who claimed that they have “killed the exam” or “too easy” were passed level 2. Level 2 is a beast, you gotta be lot stronger . Start pumping Iron for next year June exam.
