I do not fully understand the hypothetical situation - if we had access to practically unlimited resources, but for some reason we are just ārequired to workā, many people would probably just invent new job categories where they pretend to be productive so as to mooch off the system. I imagine that I might try to come up with one of these jobs.
In the simplified scenario where we are just kicked out of finance, the next step is something that is tangentially related to finance, such as consulting, or something related to corporate finance. If those are not options either, then I would open a chain of Subway restaurants or some other franchise. This might not be as interesting as other jobs, but it would be far less risky than just opening up a brand new restaurant or other business.
Trainer and stay at home dadā¦pretty much what Iām planning on doing once I have enough dough and am at a point in my career where I want to step back from the 9-5. In scenario 2, Iād still invest my own money on the side because I enjoy it, but I would need to do the daily grind that is investing professionally.
Honestly, people who invest money would probably be better at their core profession (investing) if they worked like 20 hours a week and just read the rest of the time. I probably do 20 hours of actual investment decision making and the rest of the time is taken up with bullsh!t (drafting a paper, meetings, presenting analysis eight times, client stuff, riding in an elevator, doing training, dealing with compliance, peeing in the trash can, etc.)
I know a couple of commercial pilots, and itās not what it used to be. Airlines have squeezed compensation significantly in the past decade and positions are very hard to find.
I donāt think one has to do with another, although, he probably gets more attention in terms of networking having a dynamic set of skills and experience.
So heās not a pilot, heās a guy with a private pilotās license.
I donāt call myself a driver because I have a driverās license or a courier because I use it to go fetch stuff for the wife. Pilot implies its a career.
