Black Swan, because I want to live like a maharaja with snakes for pets, elephants and camels for vehicles and rolls royces with Louis Vuitton upholstery to carry elephant and camel manure from the stables to the fields.
Mobius, guess you know what I am talking about now. My favourite Americanism happened in the UK at Windsor Castle (which is on Heathrow flightpath) when I overheard a tourist from across the Atlantic say… ‘Why the heck did these damn Brits build the castle so close to the airport??’ It was a beautiful moment…
I’m based in Mumbai in a large Swiss Bank in Structuring. You can expect something around 60-70 k (including bonus) in market risk here, in let’s say Nomura. Assuming you have 6-8 years of work experience. But it’s not everything, it depends on the location of office you’ll be shifting to. If you are shifting to South Mumbai office in Marine Drive, then you’ll be pretty much middle class with 60-70 k. But, if you are shifting to Central/Western Mumbai office, then 70 k is awesome. For a comparison Rent of a good fully furnished 2BHK flat in a good locality Central Mumbai: 1k USD with 5-6 k Deposit. South Mumbai: 3-4 k USD with 20-40k USD deposit. Double the rates for sea facing ones. A meal for two in an upmarket/decent restaurant Central Mumbai: 10-40 / 2-5 USD South Mumbai: 30 - 100 / 20 - 40 USD Gyms, sport facilities, recreation, etc is 3x in South as compared to Central/Western. So, it really depends on LOCATION of your office. I go to South Mumbai office of my firm sometimes for training usually, and it takes me 1-1.5 hours to go to South Office from my place in Western Mumbai. Choose your options carefully, best of luck.
BangBusDriver, you are the man!!! Thank you so much. exactly the information I was after…
BBD - what’s your educational background? How did you land a position in India…assuming you’re not Indian.

BBD, which IIT? I went to IITK many years ago.

Then you definitely have a very good shot here if you are wishing to move back. I’m from IIT Kgp, graduated 2 years back. While you are wishing to move back, I’m trying to move out :).

You should consider applying to one of the Financial Math masters if you want to leave Ind, (if you want to go the quant route), you’ll have the right background.
Jai Ho!

I don’t know man, I’m confused. My first choice is MBA from one of the IIMs here, but their selection procedure is quite erratic. So, in contingency plan I am sitting on a 760 GMAT to apply for MBA. I would love to study fin math, but good fin math courses aren’t going to dole out an admit to me looking at my GPA (The reason I had to leave Computer Science for finance). Though I would try but I seriously do not have any hope of getting entry into a good MFE/ fin math program.
Which planet is this? I would like to move in, also would like what you are having.
