Is Marriage Worth It?

Don’t forget to post some pics.

One of my best friends got engaged this weekend, and I’m honestly happy for him. Mainly because his future wifey is awesome. She’s hot, cooks and bakes, and relatively level headed. Sure she has other positive attributes as well. Basically I’d marry her if she weren’t already totally in love with him.

Is your buddy a BSD?

^ not really. Standard house, job, car, for a 30 year old. But the wifey is a few years younger, as she should be.

Bonus points if she’s a teacher. They usually make good mothers and have time to take care of the kids during the summer months while the man hits the golf club with the boyz.

lol

it is surprising that mose HF PM’s and risk managers are married given the probabilty of failure…most have to have a risk/reward of 3:1 or greater to make an investment…and it is hard to find a broad that meets those standards – thus it’s more often than not a terrible investment.

The NPV argument is ridiculous. It is way cheaper to maintain one house between two people, especially in retirement. The cost of a comfortable retirement for two is much less than the cost for two individuals.

I mean, if you’re all about marrying people with low propsects, then I guess NPV may drift towards negative. That could apply to a man or a woman. But there is no reason for that this day in age. My standard of living is considerably greater with my wife than without, both financially and otherwise.

So positive on the emotional side, positive on the financial side. Win win.

^^ you are an exception, that is for sure

Not really. There are tons of professional women out there. If you choose to marry the flight attendant for whatever purposes, live with that but don’t expect positive financial outcomes.

Also consider that having two high earning spouses allows much more financial risk taking. Either of us could take a high risk short-term contract job at a higher salary without any concern about our base standard of living being met. Huge positive.

Also, marrying someone that pulls their own weight dramatically reduces seperation costs if that happens at all.

Negative for independence and freedom.

The answer to your question is easy. They’re not faithful. They have the best of both worlds. Someone to come home too that takes care of their kids while having fun on the side. I worked with traders that made more coin than you can ever imagine. It was always the married ones that wanted to go to strip clubs or hire escorts on a Friday afternoon before a holiday when markets were dead. These kind of girls (strippers and escorts) are low risk to breakup your marriage as they ask for no commitment in return. You should see how crazy the Christmas parties were. Reminds me a lot of the stag party in Wolf of Wall Street.

is it worth it? let me work it…

Do you know what is the main cause of divorce?

Ans:Marriage. wink

you got laid didn’t you?

Why? just because i love that song?

+1. My wife is a teacher. Best profession a woman can be in if you want a good mother.

All this ring talk reminded me of this thread…
