All the gender, race, sexuality “equality” talk in the USA is so boring. You would think these people would STFU at some point and get to work, but the nonsense just keeps going on and on…

Isn’t it an “alternative lifestyle choice”? Oh wait… They only called it that before circa 1999 when they decided that they wanted to change it into a “rights movement” and therefore needed to market the trait as innate.
That’s a belief though, not sure that we actually know that. Have we identified a gayness gene? What percent of gay people are actually genetically gay?
It seems like being gay is the cool new thing to do, except in countries where it isn’t cool (Russia, Korea, etc). People will say “oh well that’s just because it was repressed, and now you are seeing the true gay counts”, but I’m not so sure about that. You could be seeing the count of genetically gay plus the count of “it’s cool” gay.
When someone turns gay, their gayness is applied retrospectively (i.e. they were always gay but denied it). When someone turns straight, they’re just in denial.
That’s what I’m told, anyway.
On a side note, purealpha, when did you get so jaded? These last few months you’ve really been outspoken in your general disdain for, well, pretty much everything. You were much more genial not too long ago.
ok, fair enough, you’re right. People that actually are gay say that it’s not a choice but I’m sure you’re better informed about their sexuality than they are. It’s all just a big gay conspiracy.
Rather than the entire gay population collectively deciding in ‘circa 1999’ that they would change their marketing strategy, it might be more probable that the idea of homosexuality being innate became more palatable to the mainstream and the minority voices were beginning to be heard? Lets not forget it was considered a mental illness until the '70s.
If you think that straight people are becoming gay because it’s fashionable you’re just simply deluded. Maybe men are becoming more metrosexual and borrowing from gay subcultures but I don’t think anyone is rushing out to suck some dick because Glee got mainstream.
That’s not exactly how I remember it. Through the entire 1990’s, when gay rights started to become a more mainstream and well-funded thing, it was consistently marketed as an “alternative lifestyle choice”. In the late 1990’s, did gays suddenly become self-aware that it wasn’t a choice all along? Or did the handful of organizations that drive the politics decide “Perhaps that, since the ‘choice’ angle isn’t gaining any steam, we can just claim that homosexuality is completely innate just like race”. Then it’s suddenly a civil rights movements (even though gays were not oppressed by the legal system in any way as blacks once were).
Obviously, since there is a complete lack of scientific evidence to prove that homosexuality is any more innate than obesity, and since I have seen many anecdotal examples of people “switching teams”, and since there was a distinct shift in the gay movement’s media message, I don’t take any of it seriously. They have propogated too many lies and adopted far too many propaganda techniques (e.g. Glee) to earn any of my sympathy.

Just stop replying to him. When I went on my fishing expedition in this thread a few days ago, I was trying to give inky the benefit of the doubt. Maybe his stupid behavior during the RR/xray fiasco was simply because he’s emotionally immature but otherwise a good guy. Nope.
He’s a troll just like xray. In fact, I’m 99% sure inky/RR/xray/isildurrr are, at max, controlled by three people with inky being an obvious dup account to stir the pot. It doesn’t take much to figure it out. inky responds within minutes to every RR post, his english sucks, and he makes sweeping, inflammitory statements with no proof to back them up knowing someone will bite and start arguing with him.
A few things need to happen here. First, we all just need to stop feeding the trolls. At the moment, it appears like inky is the only person that’s spending 100% of his time trolling and not adding any value. RR has even tried to make some constructive posts recently. So, just ignore him. Second, the rules need to change to state that people who come to AF to do nothing more than troll can/will be banned. Third, ban inky.

It doesn’t matter. By definition, an innate trait cannot be changed. With the exception of Michael Jackson, a black dude can’t suddenly become white.

By lies, I’m referring to things like “gays are born that way”. There is no scientific evidence to support this and none that supports the claim that it’s a trait that cannot be changed. It’s a demonstrable lie because people do “change” from gay to straight and vice versa despite the fact that the opposite is regularly claimed to be true. Even you acknowledge that it’s true in some unknown number of cases, but still claim that it’s innate.

There is hardly a TV show around that doesn’t include at least one gay character today. It’s a conscious effort to make it mainstream.

^ Canadian Blood Services reject men who have has sex with men after some date in time. Its not catching the gays, its catching HIV. That’s why intravenous drug users are also blackballed.
