I scored approximately 57% on AM and 75% on PM. I could not mange my time well in AM and had to leave question no 10 unattempted. I also left all except one subsection of question 9.Thanks to the blessings of Lord Shiva,i passed.
Its becoming more and more clear to me the MPS is 59-61
as I’ve said before. I think the CFAI will eventually regret rolling out the results with this new format. It’s making it incredibly EASY for candidates now to determine with striking granularity what you need to pass
Got a ˜ 76 on the AM and 80% on the PM, well above the 90th percentile. Above 90th percentile on 4/7 topics and above 70% mark for the other 3.
What helped me most was an externally graded AM mock and practicing all mocks from 2007. Also, there is a sheet on the subreddit where you can compare all your mock scores for each year’s AM to other users. These users also specify if they passed the actual exam.
I’d recommend Mark Meldrum, used his material for L2 and L3, passed all levels on first attempt.
I think consistently comparing your progress to peers is a great way to gauge your performance.
maybe my narrative is a bit confusing, linear fashion is pro-rata and extended to areas outside 50% to 70% range, which there’s only bottom line (70%) for scores over 70% and ceiling (50%) for scores below 50%

Only in hindsight though… Next year it might be 62-64, how can you know?

Yet, still 52 - 56% of candidates will pass… no matter how well they perform.
I think a lot of people are on the borderline. The new format of presenting the score report is meant to re-assure candidates who failed to take the test again. It is CFAI’s way of encouraging borderline failures to continue with the program and not drop off. Even the Blue interval range serves that purpose (however I don’t think that blue range serves much useful purpose for candidates).
I know that we can now extrapolate the passing score. However the nature of the exam is such that selective studying cannot be done. Very sure CFAI has thought through this very carefully before changing the format.
They owed more transparency on the results and it is welcome to see that

I feel humbled by some of the scores I am seeing on the AM section on this thread. Even those candidates who have left 20-30 points have managed to score more than 60%. In all honesty I did not even look at a single past AM paper, nor did I practice any AM mocks. Instead I chose to re-read the curriculum since I felt if I did not know an answer its because I had forgotten it. I have always concentrated on knowing my concepts very well and have never had trouble applying them to the questions asked. So I guess lack of practice was the reason why I scored poorly on the AM, I did not even know that it was so important to hit the key words. Quite honestly this ‘key words’ approach of scoring is disappointing. I really wish I was following this forum during my prep.
Advice to future L3 candidates make sure to get some practice on writing AM mocks. Finish curriculum early.

Not some, get lots of practice! I took ±10 old exams. Although I skipped all non-relevant questions so effectively it was probably around the weight of 7 full AM exams.
It makes zero difference knowing what the MPS might be or knowing exactly what it is. Are you going to adjust your application for taking next year’s exam because you think it is 59-61 rather than 60-63 or some other irrelevant range?
How does it help?
It just helps foster some meaningless discussion on this forum when the time would be better spent talking about the curriculum…

Their relief is in knowing what they should be aiming for in mocks. It’s a bad strategy as if your goal is to hit your guesstimated MPS and you turn out to be underestimating it (I see a lot of 59-60 estimates), then you’re in real trouble. I’d say stick to the 70 rule which should provide you with some buffer.
I passed the exam and I think I was AM ~58% and PM ~68%. My personal view is that the MPS is probably somewhere around 60%.
2017 passer here. It is much easier to interpret scores in the new format. I probably spent 8 hours figuring out my score, the MPS, and percentile. From 2017, my estimates were:
MPS, between 58 and 59%
My score, 68-70%, 10% above MPS, 88-92 percentile.
And, I calculated about 14-17% of people taking Level1 ever get a charter.
Iam a retaker in 2018 with band 10 in 2017.
Scored arnd 62% in am and about 90% in pm session. In pm, i was avove 90 percentile range. This yr, am qstns were exceptionally tough and u can see that 90 percentile score is only 65%.happy to have crossed the line. Pls reach out to me if anyone needs any help with lvl 3.
AM: 53%
PM: 61%
Shocked I passed with that TBH. My overall line was RIGHT above the MPS line. 1st attempt at L3.
My reflection on AM: TIME CRUNCH. I had ZERO issues on my practice exams. Practice AMs would take me like 1.5hours tops. I dunno what happened exam day, desire to be perfect/write neater or something. But i ended right down to the wire but managed to scribble something down for each question. That had me feeling better coming out because SO MANY people in my room were scribbling to the bell and people commented that they weren’t able to finish. As we all know now, writing something down for every question isn’t necessarily the way to do it as if they are wrong they are still wrong and better to have some solid CORRECT answers, but at the time i was feeling ok because of that. But content wise i thought AM was HARD, like it felt harder than the 1st attempt L2 (which i failed). SO overall felt so mixed about AM because seriously so difficult but managed to get something down so thought may have had an edge b/c of that.
PM: Thought it was easy-peazy. No issues. Done in an hour. Went over everything once. Had a nap. Figured I fell for a bunch of traps but b/c i went over it all i didn’t think there was anything i had missed at the time.
Overall wasn’t going to be surprised either way with exam score. Based on how close i was to that MPS line i just got lucky this year!
You passed? I got 48 and 68 in am and pm respectively and failed
53/61 feels very low to me for a passing score
I got slightly above 70 in both AM and PM. AM was above 90th percentile, PM was lower than 90th percentile. All topics were above 70 except for 1 between 50-70…
