I think all of th forum members has benefited from your replays and comments somehow, for me specially i like your method in comments . Congratulation for all candidates whose passed and good luck next time for the others.
Sincerely thank you Magician, true mentor for all Level III candidates. I didn’t use AF until maybe Apr 18 and read a lot of threads to which you have greatly contributed. I’ll stay with AF to try to help Level III candidates to the best as I can.
For Studying: Start in October and focus on the Curriculum, EOC Questions, Blue Box, White Text Examples and CFAI site practice questions. Only refer to Videos to clarify grey areas or deepen understanding of concepts! LevelUp is AWESOME!!!
For Essay: Cherrypick your questions and answer in bullets. Don’t attempt to go serially! CFAI knows how to bump you off your feet with questions 1 and 2.
For Item Set: Silly as this may sound, read the question before the case. It’d help your brain start to scan from your archives of learning or crammed stuff while you start to read the case. Max out here. Take every question as a pearl. For example, 1 question is 3 points! 3 questions are 9 whopping points! You’d sweat like a rhino to get 9 points in AM but with 3 questions, you bag it.
The exam has limited value to me career wise, but every May/June failing to complete it irritated me. Rather than have this carry on for the rest of my natural I decided to deal with it.
I used Level Up videos and attended the Singapore boot camp. Having been away for so long meant an additional challenge, but Marc’s teaching didn’t feel reliant on assumed knowledge. Clearly its possible to pass via the CFA materials and/or Schweser etc, but if you are committed and want to tilt the odds in your favor I recommend Level Up.
From the looks of it my score was about 48% essay and 72% - 73% on item sets. Passed just above the MPS. Slid by with a 75% on ethics. I zoomed out on the exam results and there was actually a small white space between my total score and the MPS. I figure I scored about 60% on the exam and got the ethics bump. I was just about perfectly efficient in my studying.
Wondering if I’ve had the longest journey of all time. I started this when they gave only 7 years to pass all 3 exams and then changed the rules on me. Little did they know how much I could procrastinate.
1999 - passed level 1
2000 - break
2001 - passed level 2
2002 - 2017 life. Signed up for Level 3 in 2006 but never studied and didn’t sit.
2018 - passed level 3
Congrats to all that passed. For those taking level 3 again or for first timers - practice those essays hard. That almost killed me as I did very little essay practice. I knew the material well enough to score on the MC but needed way more essay practice. It’s all about gaming the exam and not about what you know. Disappointing to know that there are some super talented people out there that are kept out of the club because they are not great at gaming exams.
