I was at jury duty a couple of years ago (got booted during voyeur doo or whatever it’s called) and was chatting with this guy and asked him what he did. He said “I just retired as Chairman of Texaco”. I was impressed. Edit - Anyway, if you haven’t been to jury duty you might want to watch what’s happening instead of burying yourself in the books. It’s one of the places where the rubber meets the road in US civics.
you will learn how dumb the average juror is. these are the *smarter* people that were selected because they can make seemingly make unbiased decisions based on the few questions asked in the screenings.
The deal with that is: a) Jurors with real lives cause problems because they need to get back to them b) Defense lawyers try to get jurors as much like the defendant as possible. Most defendants aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer.
If your jury duty is anything like my county’s, it is a blessing. The chances of even being called to a panel are slim, and you can simply find a corner and study for 8 hours. And don’t frown upon jury duty - if this is the biggest sacrifice you have to make to contribute to society, count yourself very lucky. If my dad can spend two years in a wet tent in Korea, I can sure spend a day or two in jury duty.
The last time I went, I spent two days. One day waiting for my name to be called. 2nd day, they called my name, the guy asked my opinion on something, and I didn’t say too much. They didn’t pick me 
It was a child abuse case, this one woman said she was abused as a kid and was dismissed also 
It’ll be awesome! I got called last summer and was out of work for 8 days. And most of those days we didn’t have to show up until 10 and they let us out early. Take advantage!!!
One of the great things about our system is that every person accused of a crime has the right to a trail by a jury made up of people too stupid to find a way to get out of jury duty. (I managed to get out of GRAND jury duty last month, thank God, because it would have been 2 times a week for 3 months.)
