Law School?

Law is different than Med/Dent/Pharm in that literally anyone can go to law school if they don’t care which one they’re going to. Going to a good law school is another story…

That’s like MBAs… Can you get a law degree online?

Yea exactly like MBAs. Many schools have part-time JD programs that are meant to be completed while working full-time. As far as online goes, I’m sure you can get an online JD somewhere, but it’d be considered a total joke by any company you’d actually want to work for. If you’re gonna do it, do it right, and get into at least a top 50 school and ensure yourself a decent gig afterwards.

my buddy was a Lawyer for a firm that did litigation for automobile makers and their biggest client was GM. He is now looking for a job and not having the best luck. I am sure he will get something, but Law School will not guarantee you six figs.

I do not think that’s the same for Canada

You are an idiot. If you get your MBA from B.S. University, then yes, it’s “silly” However, if you get your MBA from a top 25 school with good connections, then you are far better educated and positioned than someone with just a bachelor’s degree. You truly are an idiot.

Me and a friend of mine graduated with our undergrade from similar schools at the same time. I went on afterwards to get my MBA while she went to Spain to live for two years to have fun…I worked full time while getting my MBA and have been working ever since completing it…after returning from Spain, she enrolled in law school and is now finished with her second year at a top 20 university and has landed a job when she comes out making more than double what I will be making…even if I obtain my CFA charter. I am constantly struggling with whether I should get my CPA or try to go to a good law school. I with foresight was 50/50 instead of hindsight… Best, TheChad

TheChad, Let me ask you, where did you get your MBA from?

Not a top tiered school…probably the biggest mistake I have ever made… I have played around with many options including getting a second MBA from a top 10, getting my JD, getting my CFA (which I am doing now), and getting my CPA. I am trying my hardest to get out of the hole that I have dug for myself, but it seems to be an uphill battle. Best, TheChad

I can’t believe people get 2 MBAs.

It was just an option when trying to figure out how better position myself. At this point I am doing my CFA and am leaning toward getting my CPA since my background is in corporate finance. JD is still a very viable option however. best, TheChad

Go for it! Just don’t make the same mistake you made with your MBA. What part of the country are you in?

Don’t worry, I have definitely learned my lesson and am willing to put in the legwork to get to where I want to be…it just gets frustrating when looking back at thoughtless decisions…just gotta put my head down and keep moving forward. I am in Orlando, not huge in financial services, but I have no qualms with relocating should the right opportunity present itself. best, TheChad

If you are considering law school then you don’t truely want to work in the investment industry. Also: No reputable program will accept you for an MBA if you already have the degree. The only way around that is to simply not report your degree, which is easily done if you did it at night and have no hole in your resume.

TheChad, I have already blown more opportunity than most on here will probably have in their entire life, so you are not alone. Gotta focus on the future, right?

If you either can’t spell “truly” or don’t care enough to spell check your work then I have some doubts about your prospects for success in the investment industry. buyicide Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you are considering law school then you don’t > truely want to work in the investment industry. > > Also: No reputable program will accept you for an > MBA if you already have the degree. I have a law degree from the finest law school in the world. For what it’s worth, it doesn’t seem to be quite as valuable as I’d hoped for doing things other than practicing law. That said, that view is based only on the last year or so and I have not been as agressive as I might have in looking for another gig, nor am I the best networker around. If you are interested in both business and law, I would echo what someone said above and do a joint degree, assuming you can get into a place that has good programs in both.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one that has taken a couple steps back every once in a while, but you are right, nothing we can do except continue pushing forward…if I focused on every wrong decision I have made, I would absolutely miserable. I am sure that with a law degree from such a highly regarded school will be worth a lot more once we get through these tough times…hang in there and I am sure it will all work out. buyicide Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you are considering law school then you don’t > truely want to work in the investment industry. > > Also: No reputable program will accept you for an > MBA if you already have the degree. If I did law it would more than likely be securities law because of my interest in the investment industry. I did my MBA at night so there werent any holes in my employment history, but as I have said, I have decided not to go the route of a second MBA. Right now I am just trying to figure out my next steps should be… Best, TheChad
