It would be great if you can send me that list, I dont have to post my email right? You can send it by clicking my name?? Also if you have time to discuss this, how is the CFA seen in Dubai. You know different markets set different values for the CFA. It seems my employer does not give a rats a** about it. Makes me not wana go for Level III… Thanks for all your help!!!
Please don’t stop doing it because your current employer doesn’t care about it. The standard here is not as high as it would be in the western world, but a CFA charterholder is definitely very well respected. In terms of application of the knowledge you gain by pursuing the CFA, i think its very very low in this part of the world. And i have been in a similar position as you but i am not quitting because my employer doesn’t care. I think my current job doesn’t really need me to be a CFA, but i am not doing it for my current employer, i am doing it for myself, my future. And that’s the reason i mentioned in one of my previous posts that Dubai is probably not the place for asset management and equity research, atleast for now. And don’t you think its something you could use even after your done working in Dubai? Its universal, long term, isin’t it? So don’t even consider quitting. You should consider that only if your not interested in finance any more
You are right man, I am just at the point where one can question my sanity. Imagine for the last 20 days I have been sitting there not knowing what to do with the work I am assigned. I show them the results and they bash it and send me back to work. Yeh they dont want to guide me at least on my first assignement. So now I am spending most of my day browsing the web and wondering if I am going to be fired at the end of the probation period. Before I came the manager told me he will be taking interest in me and teaching me. Then when I arrived to dubai I met him and he told me, “here noone teaches anything, you learn on your own.” I have not seem him since, hahaha, talk about misrepresentaion… I am going to try to stay on the payroll for the next six months untill I finish Level III, maybe it will be my ticket out of here. I dont want a manager job, I understand I am entry level with no experience, but at least I want it at a firm where they teach me a thing or 2. Thanks for knocking some sense into me
Dude, I was on your side at the start, but now not so much. You spent 20 days messing around, showed them something they didn’t like, and then just gave up and wasted the rest of the time?
no i gave it my best and said dont lend this firm. i gave 20 reasons. boss gave one reason while we should lend and hinted that i go reanalyze and arrive at a do lend decision. i stared at if for two days trying to find positive things but but i could not. thats when i started to play around for lack of better idea. so my job is not an analyst but a credit reportproducer. head of dep makes decision and i make him a report. soory typing via phone
^ Oh, if that’s the case, then I can understand. I’ve experienced that myself. I would leave this job, because the boss just wants you to confirm his decision. And if the investment goes bad, he can blame it on you.
