I am trying to develop a study schedule for L2. For L1, I started with SS1 and worked my way through the curriculum in order. Since the topic area weightings are very different for L2, Im not sure if it makes sense to start with SS1 and work through in order or to jump out of order by areas of importance. For those that have taken L2, do you have any advice for developing a study schedule?
I went 1 through 18. Worked for me.
I did not touch Ethics until May . The rest I went in numerical Study order
Agreed with the above; 1-18 worked for me and I passed. I skimmed Ethics when I started and revisited it more thoroughly in the final review days. (I do wish I had spent more time on Soft Dollars, though…)
Great, Im sure it’ll work for me…
If you are comfortable with ethics its ok to leave it out until April/May since 80% is the same. Then again I passed l1 in Dec.
Would starting studying in October (leaving ethics for later) be ok time-wise or should I start earlier ? Panicking somewhat already

Panicking somewhat already This is a very good time to panic. Better to panic now than in May. As Nike would say… just do it! Just remember to pace yourself and don’t burn out.
Too true. I decided that I would start out with doing a read of CFAI and when the Schweser materials arrive, start studying then.
Reading the entire CFAI textbooks would take so much time, as they are infinitely verbose and you risk getting lost in all the clutter. You will be able to pass by reading the end of chapter summaries and drill those EOC questions (all of them) in your head by May. If you want to test your retention skills, you may gloss over Schweser notes.
I started in January (since I took L1 in December)…went through the curriculum in order with the exception of ethics, which I left until the end. I started off with Schweser, but ended up using a lot of the CFA stuff - the Schweser material was just too concise at times and I felt that they had left some key things out. I would particularly recommend using CFA for FSA and parts of equity. I spend the first 2 1/2 months reading the material and taking notes. Then I spent another 1 1/2 months going through it all again, filling gaps and the last months on practice exams (CFA and Schweser). Worked for me…
My study plan is as follows: First 3 Months: Read the entire CFAI Text Next 4 Months: Read the Schweser Notes, Re-read weak areas Final 3 Months: Read Secret Sauce several times, memorize formulas, take at least 4 practice exams

That is one months worth of studying at best. Final stretch counts the most, as you’ll find out that you forgot a lot. I’d say to 2 months of CFA text and EOC and then the last month do secret sauce and 6+ practice exams.
I haven’t given CFA L2, registed for 2010 , but didn’t appear. My advise to Jay, Read scheweser once to indentify topics where you need to refer CFAI curriculum. Read those topics from CFAI and the rest from scheweser. Practise EOC and go through the books again and again to get the topics in your head. You need the topics to stick to your memory.
