It’s much difficult when Ethics is given as a constructive type question…hard to score if you don’t remember the procedures and recommendations that are prescribed in each standard. Glad it’s over.
I paid membership fee today and got an email that I am a member now. - pupdawg82, CAIA
Interesting about the ethics trend. I received a grade of Higher in all sections except Constructed Response where my grade mark was outstanding and ethics where I scored Lower. I scored above 75% in ethics in Level 1. I wonder why it seems everyone struggled with Ethics?
Thanks! It was closer than I would have liked, but who cares I am done. I too apparently struggled with ethics, which I thought was fairly straightforward. I was “lower” on that somehow. 12 letters after my name now and I still need/want those 3 more that have eluded me, C-F-A.
I hope they come up with a more efficient way to test when it comes to constructive type/essay questions. Right now it’s more or less a lottery (3 sets from any of the 60+ chapters) . It’ll be really hard for someone to pass if they get 2 questions from a random draw, that cover chapters, they may have reluctantly skipped. 20% of exam weight will go out in smoke leaving you wondering, what the hell happened. Also another thing, you miss/don’t remember a para/an important sentence somewhere, and boom you get a question on that. I hope they make it less of a memorization exercise!
what other letters do you have ML? I still need to clear CFA L3:)
I have a Masters Degree in Investment Management and the Chartered Investment Management Analyst designation.
Wow Big ML… you are on fire. One last one to go! I signed up last night so I am: Soccertom9, CAIA Congats Pupdawg for also being able to use the designation now. To answer the question for the ethics. i think its because it was a pretty straightforward question that as soon as you got 1 part wrong you automatically fall into the lower category as for that question a 0.5 standard deviation is a very small swing in your score. I think I did pretty well on the exam overall: Commodities and Managed Futures = Outstanding Current / Integrated Topics = Higher Hedge Funds = Outstanding Other Constructed Response = Higher Private Equity = Higher Ethics = Comparable Real Assets = Comparable Now my academic journey is done for quite a while. No FRM for me and only thing left would be a M Sc. or MBA… but don’t really need it at the moment.
Soccertom, You kicked ass. I was comparable on most. Lower on ethics and managed futures and higher on real assets. Feel pretty good though abotu my scores given everything else I had on my plate in September. I had hoped to make a clean sweep because I have been taking exams for two years now. Unfortunately, CFA Level III had other plans. I took the series 6, series 63, CIMA Levels I and II, CAIA Levels I and II and the CFA Levels II and III in the past 26 months. Would have been a clean sweep if not for those evel people at the CFAI that managed to trip me up on Level III. One more academic challenge for me and then I am hanging it up.
big ML, can I ask you why you decided to pursue CIMA, as opposed to CPA? You are definitely on fire and we have high respect for you!
wondering when CAIA will have level III ? heard CFA also had 2 levels only initially. when did they add the level III ? anyone ?
Now CAIA org has to make this exam little tougher especially level I:) ML - You are on a roll. I am with you for CFA. Failed level III once and do not will power to take it again. Sometime in future for sure. Soccertom - Are you done with your CFA?
Congrats Azzii! For someone studying full-time school, it’s quite an accomplishment… Good luck with your university finals!
I know there are two CIMAs, I have the Certified Investment Management Analyst designation not the accounting exam. I hate accounting. No offense meant to any accountants out there, just not my cup of tea.
And taking it one step further, the only reason I got the CIMA designation is that my previous company requested it and I thought it would be easier to appease them than to tell them to go fly a kite.
Thanks toHFanalyst. My grid is all over the place lol. Outstanding : ethics and Hedge funds Higher: Commodities and managed futures Comparable : other constructed response questions Lower: private equity and real assets Weak: current and integrated topics. Sorry if im asking this again, but are you in toronto? if yes did you attend the congrats and commiserations event on the 24th?
Hi Azzii, yes I was, but didn’t get around to talking to all the L2 people. I was an early bird like most of the L1 guys. Did you attend? It was my first event and seemed decent. Got some good advice for L2. Btw, I think we wrote our exams the same day…
pupdawg, I would just take some time off, recharge the engine and just step right back into the CFA. I feel that there is never really a good time to take it (especially seeing as it is the worst exam I have ever taken). To make life easier on myself I already started studying the alternatives section. Just my two cents.
Pupdawg: Yup done CFA… just need 2 more years work experience. I failed last year level 3 cuz I didn’t study enough… but came back with a vengence. The trick is to memorize your “lists” and make sure you know them all 100%. The exam was not that hard after that.
