Local society?

Here is the answer I got from CFAI: Thank you for writing. All application materials are submitted to CFA Institute initially for review. Upon receipt of a completed membership application (with sponsors) we conduct a review to recommend regular or affiliate membership and submit our recommendation to the local society. It is not required that you apply or provide sponsorship separately to the local society. It is required that you apply for membership in a local society as part of the requirement for the eventual award of the CFA Charter. Please let us know if we can further assist you.

I will need both sponsors from the local society. Any idea how you go about doing that? How do you ask someone to be your sponsor? I don’t know any CFA who is a member of the local society (Atlanta).

Is this the consensus? Bcoz i dont want to apply for membership now and pay dues untill i get thru level 3 and get reqd exp…

Apparently you should not hurry with paying the local society…see old post below. Not sure if this hasn’t changed in the meantime. http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?13,601294,page=2 Re: FEES!!! The CFA Institute does not advertise this, but once you pass Level 3 and submit all of the required work experience, recommendations, etc…you have two options 1) pay local society right away and get letter faster 2) wait 45 days to lapse - once that happens your application automatically gets forwarded to the CFA Institute and you join ONLY the institute (not the local society)
