the thing about opportunity and luck is really an amazing variable. Of course you better be ready to capitalize on the opp but if you’re not prepared you would never know that an opp of a lifetime just whizzed by you. Met a guy in his early 30s in one of NYSSA meetings - at an irish bar - who was in back office but was looking to get into research or really anything front office. he took multiple self study financial modeling courses and was a cfa charterholder. i am connected with him on linkedin and right now he is an ER for a bank. not bad after 9 years of back office and from a cuny school.

Kevin Roose “Young Money” if I’m picking up what you’re putting down. Interesting read but there should be a disclaimer that Kevin started writing with an agenda and since the death of BAMLs German IB intern and some other events, there has been some change to culture.
