lv2 is intense

just finish reading the quant section, totally blown away. havent decided to do lv2 in December yet, but i guess i’ll just read as much as i can and see what happens by August 23rd. When I was doing level 1, i thought people were being indifferent when they said lv1 was easy and hated it everytime someone said it. I am saying this now, lv1 is nothing compare to lv2, its really where all the hardcore stuff is. lol

First early-bird deadline is September 22nd for L2 in June 2011, otherwise, wait until second deadline in February 2011. What topics are in the quant section?

theres no lv2exams in december

Never mind, I found the sample table of contents of LOS for L2 curriculum. Well … the Quant is intense but not very bad Reading 11 - Correlation and Linear Regression Analysis, ANOVA, R^2 test * Sophomore and Junior year statistics course. Reading 12 - Multiple regression analysis, more ANOVA table and matrix * Junior year Statistics course. Reading 13 - Time Series and Forecasting (My favourite) * Time Vs Frequency domain * Fourier Transform / Analysis * Linear Vs log-linear models * Maximum likelihood Estimate * ARIMA model (Autoregression and Moving Average) * Random Walk and Autocorrelation * Trend of the mean and stationary variance * Test of Runs, Normality, White Noise. * Forecasting model (the future) given training data set (the past) * ARCH(1,1) and GARCH(1,1) models * Senior year / graduate-level Statistics course

There is another thread discussing this subject: http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?12,835758

yeh, i really thought there was a level 2 exam in dec. I’ve heard people passing all three in 1 and half year, how did they manage to do that?

quant in the whole CFA program is a complete joke compared to econometric courses I took in college.

you must be really smart.

i dont understand a thing so far have to say, still struggling with fourier transformation from my crystallography/solida state chemistry days.

To the winner goes 14 of the last 18 months of solitude.

“Reading 13 - Time Series and Forecasting (My favourite) * Time Vs Frequency domain * Fourier Transform / Analysis * Linear Vs log-linear models * Maximum likelihood Estimate * ARIMA model (Autoregression and Moving Average) * Random Walk and Autocorrelation * Trend of the mean and stationary variance * Test of Runs, Normality, White Noise. * Forecasting model (the future) given training data set (the past) * ARCH(1,1) and GARCH(1,1) models * Senior year / graduate-level Statistics course” No chance. There is NO way that this could possibly be considered graduate level or even 4th yr stuff. Yr 2 tops. (And I do have the background to make that statement.)

Passing all three levels in a year and a half is in theory possible, but realistically I don’t think it’s doable; here’s how that would have to work: take december lvl 1 exam with no studying at all; just go in cold, write, and pass. t=0 6 months later, pass lvl 2 exam with only 6 months study. t=.5 yrs a year later, pass lvl 3 exam. t = 1.5 yrs obviously the above is BS, and anyone who tells you they did this is probably lying.

Not true, I know 2 examples. the guy who sits next to me did the exact same thing. L1 Dec L2 Next June L3 The june after Dude is now working hard for his “work experience” - harder than he worked for any of those three levels  Other guy used to work in the due diligence area, he did it the exact same fashion. Infact he did L2 and L3 while he was doing his executive MBA. So it could be done - but it must be hard hard work and lots of luck.

Don’t believe you. nothing personal, but this is a story being written on the internet without any sources, names, or evidence, and given what I know about the exams, it sounds like BS.

I’m 2/3 of the way done. It’s most definitely doable, there’s a ton of people on this forum who just passed LII in June and LI last December.

sure, yeah, my friend did that too. Just walked into CFA lvl 1 exam without touching a book after a weekend of drinking and a pretty hefty coke binge. passed with 70+ in everything. He was also doing his MBA at Harvard at the time, and training for a mountain climbing expedition; he climbed everest a couple weeks before the second CFA exam, which he also got 70+ on all categories in. He’s actually nailing Jessica Simpson now, he’s a great guy, you’d all really like him.
