^ Holy sht, vikas’ stuff is deep: do what you really want, make money, and your family has to be supportive or else they don’t really love you.

I always wanted to be a magician you know, going coast to coast, visiting every small town and all that. A magician or maybe a bounty hunter, but the point is, I’ll tell my wife tonight I’ll pursue my dream and that if she’s not supportive then I don’t even know who she is and our marriage has been just a lie (not to mention higgmond says he’s the biological father of my two kids, but that’s my last card).

I printed a list of the code and standards out on a big 11x17 sheet and hung it on the wall right behind my monitors, so the most productive non-work I do is stare at that. Otherwise I do a lot of the same stuff you do…pay bills, look for sweet groupons, rebuild budget models for personal finance, read dealbreaker. Or get coffee from the farthest coffee machine. Not to waste time, but because it’s next to all the cute AP girls. Safe to say I drink a lot more coffee these days.

To the original topic…If you had some concept for a website, you could work on that (depending on access from work, tracking, etc). That could, in theory, be something to make money. I had started that as one of my side projects, but just got to busy with work (and travel for work) to keep it up…that and I have very little knowledge in the areas I would need for what I want to do.

Other ideas - you could write investment articles for something like seekingalpha, which depending on the views could get some money. I used to do a lot of tutoring for finance and accounting, which in some of the cases is basically doing problems for people and sending to them, so that is another option.

The idea of investing in yourself is also good. Maybe focus on a langauge? I was doing that a little, since my work has me spending most time in latin america…only problem with that for me is it pretty much wipes me out.

I also spend time over lunch talking to folks who need help with understanding or managing their investments. I obviously dont earn for it, But I get to talk about the stuff we have learnt - and you make a positive influence on peoples life, though I earn nothing extra :slight_smile:

But Kevinf12 idea of writing finance articles, seems a brilliant one!
