MBA for executives: Oxford vs. MIT

China is still extremely far from where Japan stands, despite the rapid growth it has exhibited over the past couple of decades. Per capita income of the country is still around the emerging markets range and there is a wide disparity between poor and rich. I do not think this is anywhere close to what Japan has achieved. It would take a whole lot more time, effort, and massive restructuring in the China economy if it were to be ranked up against the world leaders. Right now, all we can say about China is that it is a huge potential market with increasing clout. Nothing more. MIT 6 Oxford 2 Now back to the score. Clearly “brand” holds more weight than the other criteria I listed down. Regardless of what field you are focusing on, which school among the abovementioned holds more weight in gold? MIT is known as an engineering melting pot while Oxford is known for the development of world leaders. Tough choice.

“I honestly don’t understand why people would want to work and live in tyranny, given a choice…but to each his own” It’s fine to live in China if you are rich.

Back again on topic. I work with a Sloan alum and he’s very happy with his time spent there. I don’t know anyone from Oxford Business School so I couldn’t compare (even if I knew an Oxford alum, you can’t compare the two programs that way), however, I agree that the school brand as the perceived prestige of it among your prospective future employers is the main reason to select a business school unless you have a very specific study track, not just “Finance”, or “Brand Management”. The most prestigious professors often have lots of people sitting in the classroom stairs during the first week of the semester, and often you just can’t matriculate to every course you want to take because there aren’t enough spots. Back to this Sloan dude, he’s a smart, outgoing person, and I don’t see how attending Oxford instead of Sloan would have made any difference. You don’t get any smarter by attending either school. You get a little bit more informed, plus the brand, that’s all. And about China, I’m not into Asian girls so count me out too.

MIT 7 Oxford 2 Runaway winner.
