MDs standing around next to me talking about $40k school for their kids

I just used colleges as an example, but the same thing should apply to high schools, right? Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that most large public high schools do not have the resources to provide 1 teacher per 10 students, and thus, they cannot organize themselves the way colleges do. If your high school charged the same tuition as Princeton, I’m sure that they could provide an intimate and personalized experience despite a large class size.

@ohai:This is why i am such a great devotee of CFA/FRM/CPA etc kind of courses.Even if you are born with Bill gates as your papa, you are not going to earn the charter until and unless you work hard for it.

You’re missing the point man, i’m not talking about the student teacher ratio. It doesn’t matter in colleges because students are adults by then and a lot of their personality, confidence etc has been shaped.

In school half of your learning is done outside the classroom and in that aspect medium sized schools win hands down. Your structure uptil what you call middle school is great, decent sized too. where is the need to merge 3-4 middle schools into one high school?

Hell instead of building prisons you could build more schools.

As the grapevine suggests son of the ex prime minister of an Asian country got admissions into one of the below mentioned colleges after giving $70 million as donations.

1)Cambridge University 2)Trinity College 3)Harvard University

You really think it doesn’t happen? Just look no further than the Dallas Cowboys. The owner is Jerry Jones, and the top three executives in the company are Stephen Jones, Charlotte Jones Anderson, and Jerry Jones Jr.

Then there’s Rupert Murdoch and his six kids–all of whom were executives at media companies (namely Newscorp) or married to executives at media companies.

I’m sure there are a thousand other examples, but these are the two that most readily come to mind.

And I’m not saying Jerry Jones Jr. is an idiot. Dude went to Georgetown then got his JD from SMU. But if he had been born to poor parents in rural Texas, do you think he would still be an EVP of the Dallas Cowboys?

And back to what I said earlier–Georgetown and SMU are two schools for rich preppy white parents to send their rich preppy white kids to rub shoulders with other rich preppy white kids…

Murdoch is scum and Rahul’s being a hypocrite.

Bet if he had a kid he’d do the same…nothing wrong in making sure your kids get a leg up in a cold mean world. Just draw a line somewhere and they’ll grow up fine

Where is stormy’s racist rant?

@isildum: Even if god gives me all the money in the world,i will not bribe authorities to get my child admitted to a famous school.

It isn’t bribing if it’s legal eh

Would you get your kid a management seat in an engineering college?

@isildum:probably no.

You won’t have to. You can do it legally. If you donate $300m to the Chicago Business School, and they rename it “Rahul Roy School of Business”, there’s nothing illegal or unethical or immoral about it.

And I’m quite certain that your two kids would get some “extra” consideration when the apply there. (or anywhere else, for that matter)

ah, i think you’ll change your mind when you become a dad.

or else you’re just going to be a terribly uncool one

Who else would wipe Jerry Jones’ glasses on national TV.

his son in law. That’s who did it last time.

lol

IE Business school (which is ranked best in the world for its Ms finance course) teaches CFAL1 syllabus(as per their website given below) and the fees for the course is nearly 70k pounds(including tution, accomodation etc). One of my friend went to this school after clearing CFAL1(in 3 attempts).I think there is a Gmat waiver for this course if you have cleared CFAL1.My friend has a rich dad who can afford 70k pounds for a 10 month course to help his son learn the syllabus of CFAL1 only.My point is when you have already cleared CFAL1 what is the point to study the same thing again after paying 70k pounds??My friend has no intention to complete the CFA course at all.He just wants a “foreign degree” so that his family can flaunt it as a “status” symbol.

If you couldn’t buy your kid’s way into the best schools, those schools wouldn’t have libraries, new fitness faciities, etc. Do you really think Princeton is going to get the Higgmond Ice Arena if Higgmond, Jr. isn’t matriculating there?

Not to mention the student body benefits from rubbing shoulders with these BSD juniors. A win, win. Taking up one spot to benefit the whole is well worth it. Is there somebody complaining about the practice?

The key is holding out for an invite to Skull & Bones. Don’t accept any bids from those other societies. Once you pass their initiation you’ll suddenly find five figures in your bank account, get a killer new car, and party with dimes all night. You’ll be best buddies with a guy who’s father is a high powered judge and everything will go great. Well, right up until your buddy accidentally seriously injures a snoopy college reporter trying to take pictures of the WAR room. Then all hell breaks loose and the next thing you know the Provost is trying to kill you. The only way out of it is to challenge your former best friend to a duel but throw the gun down after taking ten paces. Surely he’ll remember your friendship and not pull the trigger? But then his dad - the high-powered judge - steps in and tries to kill you. Thankfully your once again best friend turns his gun on his own father to protect you. But, hey, along the way you made a great connection with a senator, probably setting yourself up for life.

Totally worth it.

Apparently, foreign heads of state often enroll their kids in prestigious US schools under fake names, i.e. Kim Jong Un style. Maybe you’ve already met the next dictator of some military state but do not know it.
