Membership Application Story - Lengthy Approval Process

This membership process is killing me… I must’ve checked 15 times yesterday to see if my work experience was approved. I would’ve done it before finding out I passed, but going through the paperwork, asking sponsors, etc, before the exam seems like a recipe for embarrassment.

I did mine before I even passed LII…

Great tips from jcole. Don’t be afraid to call CFAI, they have been very helpful the few times I have spoken to them.

Is it the company that you worked for? I’ve worked for three companies, they requested further information on a small place where I believe nobody in US has heard of. However, they did not even question what I do when the company name is like a well-known investment consultant.

I checked my status yesterday. My status changed from “working experience review” to “Under Review - Society”. Does it mean that CFAI approved my working experience ??

If it has days I think so - click on the review and in the center, center left-hand it will say ‘recommendation type:’, and hopefully it will say ‘regular’. That means it was approved.

It say regular with 43 decision days remaining. Thanks Jcole21 !!!

I emailed them my work experience on Tuesday. Right after I called for update of status, I received an email stating that my work experience was updated. I immediately submitted my application. My supervisor answered the sponsor form the same day (I gave him a heads-up before). Meeting my other sponsor (colleague from different department) on Monday to give him some background of what I do. Question: Once my other sponsor answers, how long it takes for CFAI and NYSSA to review? And then how long it takes to get the charter? Thanks.

So to recap, you can submit work experience without needing any sponsors. Only when you apply for the charter are you going to have to provide sponsors?

Yes. You submit your application first with work experience. Almost immediately you will receive an email instruction about sponsor. former trader Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So to recap, you can submit work experience > without needing any sponsors. not necessary that one MUST be supervisor. if not using Supervisor - you can use two charterholders - at least 1 of them must belong to the local society you are going to apply to.

It took only one week for CFAI to approve my work experience. Local society probably takes longer. It says 44 decision days remaining.

^ Finally got all my sponsors responded. My application status now says “Work experience review.” I called CFAI and asked how long it takes for the review to be done. The lady said it takes about 3 weeks for CFAI to review and another 45 days for the local society. B_C, how did you get your work experience reviewed in 1 week? Did you keep calling them? I am so ready to call them every 5 minutes.

Calling them won’t speed it up.

Jcole, Thanks. What about local society (NYSSA)? What has been the experience?

okay, I guess she’s right on that part them (she did say 45 days). jcole21 Wrote: > Couldn’t say - mine’s got a countdown that is now > at 30 days or something - it started at 45.

I didn’t contact them for my work experience review. They approved so fast probably because my sponsors submitted the forms the next day after the results came out (ie. Aug 17, 2010). I agree with jcole21 - might be longer now with more L3 passers getting around to it.
