I don’t know what the best policy is for minimum wage, but I know that low cost workers in San Francisco and El Segundo don’t both need the same minimum wage.

We are actually more or less on the same page, though only in a world without kids. Unfortunately welfare to ensure kids get an equal opportunity is more or less done via the parents and this needs to be factored in, no? Unless you’re a screw the children true Rand type, but I really didn’t think those folks existed anymore. I don’t think a great deal of welfare exists in the U.S. beyond what you’ve stated, it certainly doesn’t in Canada (unless you’re a native or refugee or disabled person).
Agreed, cost of living makes a standard minimum wage silly. Would be nice to have a cost of living indexed. Im with you though, its a difficult policy decision.
If you’re going to cite economics, which is an art and not a science, then all you fools need to brush up on some history, social & political science as well. We tried this already during the industrial revolution and we had kids working in factories.

The war on CO2 is killing people and the minimum wage will send more into a life of crime. The first job is critical. Inhumane to outlaw work below a certain level of productivity. 88% of minimum wage workers do not live in households below the poverty line. If you want to help the poor live a better life, just have transfer payments for all. No class warfare and demeaning means testing neeeded. Don’t distort the market and disenfranchise many low skilled works by outlawing what they can do to benefit scociety. Some of you have the horsepower, but your points must be fouled or you just are evil. Nothing worse than taking a man’s spirit and forcing him on the dole or into prison. Disgusting.

dude you need to stop with this CO2 thing. you can’t seriously argue for manmade pollution, CO2 or otherwise. CO2 is released alongside many other very bad things which cause millions of deaths per year. you can’t serious advocate for allowing polluters to continue unabated. maybe CO2 is the wrong measure but harmful pollution is being limited either way.
as for the minimum wage being “evil”, there is plenty of evidence that shows that minimum wage is effective in improving the standard of living for the working poor. combining a minimum wage with welfare-like benefits is the best way to tackle the “welfare wall”. in a society with welfare but no minimum wage, nobody would ever work. in a society that wishes to provide a minimum living standard for its citizens, using both is necessary to ensure that living standard in a country while incentivizing low skill workers to get off the couch.

Believe it. Without man’s intervention, CO2 levels will continue to decline to even more dangerous levels. Life flourishes at 2000 ppm. We are at 365 ppm or so. We had been around 300 ppm not too long ago. Plants really struggle below 300 and die at 180ppm. And the evidence shows CO2 changes lags temp changes. The whole idea of AGW is complete bunk. And difficulty in finding a first job is one of the biggest indicators that someone will turn to crime. Banning low skilled work helps very few to the detriment of many.Avoid the truth and continue supporting your draconian ideas to the detriment of your fellow man. Not sure what you get out of it.

This example demonstrates the most under-reported point…America is one of the most diverse countries in the world, and one rate applied to all is not appropriate. Currently, there is a federal minimum wage, but many, many states and cities have already authorized a much higher local minimum wage (i.e. Seattle is already $15/hr). So let’s give the states and local governments the ability to best serve their citizens as our gov’t was originally designed to do, while the federal gov’t serves as a backstop to ensure that a checks/balances systems remains in place.
