MPS

MissCleo- On what basis do you make this statement? Just wondering.

How many hours did you study for CFA LII 2012? Do you feel like you’re only seeing UNFAIR questions?

300+, and this was much mroe than I put in for L II last time ~ 50. I will say this I’ve taken Level II twice already and both times gotten above 70 on ethics and equity. I knew that stuff inside and out, was getting 11/12, 22/24 on the practice tests for those two. The questions they asked were just very strange. Ditto for derivs. Maybe I was just more nervous for this time. Who knows. I failed, so again hope 2013 goes better. A little brushing up and solidifying FRA and apparently derivs and I’ll be good.

I feel like Miss Cleo and myself are basically identical, this is my exact thought on the two tests and I feel like I basically missed my opportunity to pass the exam last year because I just didn’t have Equity, FRA down cold. I would have passed for sure. I feel like this year I improved in all areas and had we seen similar difficulty to last year I would have been prepared enough to pass but of course that didn’t happen.

i too think last year exam was difficult than this year, the only thing that concerns me is lot many tricky questions this year, on the face value would have looked simpler, but that may not be the case and accordingly will be a deciding factor in crossing the winning line

Relax and wait 4 the results, some of you are going to realize that AF is not a true representation of the entire population that sat June 2012 Level 2 exams! Mark my words, 95% of the all the commentators of AF are going to mysteriuosly going to pass the exams come July! Remember close to 50,000 candidates sat for level 2 exams! There only around 25 candidates in AF who says the exams was easy… the MPS definitely will be below 65%. Missing 1,2,3,4,5…15 questions will not have a big impact on your performance because everybody except the outliers did the same… and remember it was CFA exams; time constraints, concepts, tricks etc

MissCleo you are going to pass-relax

I posted this on another thread, but thought it might make more sense here:

Taking last year’s pass rate of 43%, and 44,175 test-takers, I plotted some data on Excel. While Excel limited me to 32,000 data points, I normally distributed 32,000 scores between 33% and 100%. The lowest score that was in the top 43% was 66.78%…(i.e. the MPS). These were the percentages for the bands:

MPS: 66.78% ~ (80/120)

Band 10: 65.35% ~ (78/120)

Band 9: 63.92% ~ (77/120)

Band 8: 62.49% ~ (75/120)

Band 7: 60.95% ~ (73/120)

Band 6: 59.33% ~ (71/120)

Band 5: 57.52% ~ (69/120)

Band 4: 55.44% ~ (67/120)

Band 3: 52.79% ~ (63/120)

Band 2: 49.08% ~ (59/120)

Band 1: 33.33% ~ (40/120)

If unfortunately you are right my firend i believe i woill be out of the equation anywhere between 6 and 10

I failed in Band 10 last Year and my score were as follows:

Alternative Investments: * - -

Corporate Finance: * - -

Derivatives: * - -

Economics: - * -

Equity: - - *

Ethics: - - *

FRA: - - *

FI: * - -

PM: * - -

I think last year the AM session was VERY Difficult and Time Consuming and PM session was VERY Easy, while this year the AM Session was Difficult and Time Consuming and PM session was Easy. The only difference I felt was that the word “VERY” was missing…Rest all same.

I must also confess I was better prepared for the higjly weighted topics last year and I concentrated on the lower weighted topics this year where I had =<50. One more thing to add is that Ethics was definitely trickier this year.

I was scorring 73-83 on mocks and I felt like I scored a 60 on the AM session and maybe and 80 on the PM session. I think the MPS will be high 60’s, so Micholien’s number seems resonable. It’s possible I went 55 then 70 so I’m not getting too excited. 1st time taking this test - failed band 6 my first time L1 then came back and got >70% on all sections the second time.

If last year’s candidates were incredibly weak, why did I fail?

Oh wait…

plz guess the scores: <=50 in 5 sub;; 51-70 in 5 sub

Band 3 or 4, assuming low ends.

Yeah Band 2 or 3 would be my guess

Srry guys it was Band 7

No difference, it is still a failure. No?

‘Passed’ would be a miracle.

That’s about how I felt, AM: 30-40, PM 40-50. Question is would the low end pass: 30+40=70. Studied 400+ hours, mostly CFAI and mocks. Work in valuation.

I am from non financial background. Worked very hard and performed better than expected. I felt morning exam easier compared to afternoon.

Derivatives is complete mess. Struggled in ethics in afternoon. Most of the other sections will be in higher 50-70 and lower >70. Keeping my fingers crossed. Struggled in foreign currency related areas in economics and portfolio management while revision. Spent 3 days in last 10 days in those areas.

Expecting 70% to 80% in morning exam and 55% to 60% in the afternoon exam.
