I somehow got >%70 in every section. For studying I watched kaplan 2015 vids for background then did ~2000 allen cfa practice questions, then each cfa topic test 3 times (they change each time you open it), and then about 9 full topic tests (AM+PM). The key was to not just do questions and review the right answers, but i also always reviewed the wrong options and made a mental note on why they were wrong. this makes a huge difference.
I presume, therefore, that you passed.
If so, Congratulations, egynoob!
Passed L1 with >70% for everything bar for Portfolio Management (unexpected) and Economics with 51%-70%. Wasn’t surprised with my economics grade since I seemed to struggled to score well in that section of the mocks.
I used mostly Schwesser and found the content sufficient to cover the exam, the mocks were the most useful I thought. Not sure how people can put the reason for failing L1 down to Schwesser.
Did you do just the Schweser Q bank? I did just the Q bank for like 5 months and failed band 10. I also got 3 hours sleep the night before because of my roommate’s dumb*** dog barking at 3 am! In hindsight, should I have known more information to comfortably pass? probably. But could a good night sleep be the difference between band 10 and a pass? Definitely.
Congratulations, bimo!
I had a lot of blind guesses in Equity and Fixed Income sections and I got > 70% in these topics somehow. Among those topics, Econ is the one in which im the most confident and it caught me by surprise that I got < 70% for that topic. Anyway, I heard that lv2 is much harder than lv1 and dont get overconfident if u got 7 or more topics above 70% and start preparing for it from now even if you want to take it in June 2018.
Second time writing and I passed. I did almost 30 topic tests for accounting and still ended up with 51-70 lol. Failed economics
@Iprofit4sure I didn’t bother with the Q bank, I was told by a friend of mine who did L1 in June that he didn’t find the Qbank questions to mimic the CFA questions that much. I just read the Schwesser books and questions in there, CFA+Schwesser mocks and the CFA book questions for topics which I felt I needed more practice. Did you do the Schewesser mocks? I did all 6 AM and PM ones and I found it very useful in preparing for the exam.
I myself could not fall asleep the night before the CFA exam. This was part due to nervousness and the fact I am weaning myself of sleeping meds. Surprisingly, I felt quite alert and concentrated during both exams given my mind and body knew how important the day was. Obviously it is much better to go into the exam feeling rested. I admit that it wasn’t the most peaceful start to the exam day since I had the fear of fatiguing during the exam in the back of my mind.
Congratulations, 2!
I checked the detailed exam result and I don’t understand how people are saying Band 10 or Band 9 or something.
All I see is just percentage ranges.
You aren’t seeing them because you passed -_- haha
Passed
with all above 70% except Alternative Inv and Derivatives (51-70 both).
Congratulations, dsrox!
Passed with >70% in all topics! I was so nervous before the exam that I won’t pass because I didn’t have time to do any mock exam, and everyone was talking about how many exams they have done and how much they were scoring. I was on the way to the exam saying there is no way I could pass it since I barely had time to go through the formulas while everyone else on the way to the exma in the train (I was examined in London) seemed so confident. I was surprised that the exam questions were not that hard and I thought I was able to solve confidently most of them. Ideally, it would be great to do as many mock exams as you can but honestly if you didn’t have time, make sure you understand the material and you will be able to find your way in the exam.
Congratulations, hmousa!
Hi all;
long time lurker here (since 2014).
Failed band 10 December 2015; (after giving both levels of FRM in Nov).
Managed band 11 this December (ha ha).
I owned the exam this time.many thanks to the analyst forum community.
looking forward to owning L2 in June 2016.
Hello All -
My first post here as well. Managed to pass L1 with all the sections above 70% (no idea how that happened). Would like to thank the community here for the valuable posts and motivation. I almost didn’t register for the Dec exam as I only started studying in mid Sept. Read someone’s post here that it could be still done, even with working full time. Pretty much studied everyday (2 hours on weekdays & 6 hours on weekend) for 2.5 months. Didn’t get a chance to do any mocks, but by some miracle was able to pass with all sections above 70%. ( I am a CPA so the Accounting sections were pretty fresh) Hoping not to make the same mistake for L2, registered already and hoping to start studying on Feb 1st. Good luck to everyone who is going to do L2 in June and the folks who were close to passing L1 but didn’t make it over the fence, keep your chin up and try again.
Cheers!
I too am a long time lurker here… usually just pop in when I have a question, more often than not to find someone has already asked it, and I get my answer.
I signed up for level 1 for the first time in June 2013 but i did not study at all and as expected, failed miserably. I think it was band 6? Or maybe it was 5. I honestly don’t remember. What I do remember is that I wasn’t ready to put in the work that was required. I had recently finished my Masters and had started a new job and I decided to take some time to focus on that and enjoy the little break. I didn’t want to take too long of a break however, so I took a second stab at it last June.Unfortunately, circumstances kind of got in the way and I didn’t even get to finish the last two books… and so, once again, I failed. But this time, I made it to band 9. And I figured since I could not even finish all the required reading and still not do TOO badly, I would give it one more try.
I am pleased to say that I have passed my CFA Level I exam.
This is just my way of telling those out there who didn’t make it this time, that it is VERY possible. Just be disciplined and focused and you’ll get there.
I suspect that I will be visiting this forum more often as I journey onto my level II exam. Congrats to all who passed and goodluck to those who will be trying again.
Passed with >70% in all subjects. I have S2000 to thank for that. <3
This thread is so motivating! First I would like to say congrats to everyone who passed L1! Mostly importantly, I would like to thank those who shared your experience and provided encouragement. Reading some of your determination and perseverance stories really increased my motivation to tackle L1 in December. To those who didn’t pass, lets conquer it together!!
