fail 2010 pass 2011
Band 8 2010 Pass 2011 Took Level 1 December 2009 and was honestly quite burned out afterward. I couldn’t get myself to put in enough studying for last year’s test. That being said, the test is a beast no matter how you look at it.

2008: band 5 – not a good attempt; moved across the country twice and tried to start an MBA in the spring. Bit off more than I could chew. 2009: band 10 2010: band 10 2011: Pass 2009 and 2010 were a kick in the jimmy. Didn’t pass ethics either year and that sunk me. To anybody reading this who was close. Start reading ethics early. Hit ethics HARD.
I just passed on my fourth attempt. Funny thing is that I only studied for two months with an intense focus on the most important areas. I had no pressure on me since I had little hope in passing and was simply taking the exam as practice for 2012 (the last time I sat for L2 was in 2007).
BTW, the majority of my two month study time was spent doing questions and taking mock exams, and then referencing Schweser books for the material that I got wrong. With the exception of the Ethics handbook, I did not use the CFAI books at all (not even for the EOC questions) as I didn’t have time. However, I do feel that the EOC questions are very important and would have given me a nice edge. On previous failed attempts, I tried to study way too much material without mastering any. Each year I would finish studying way too late, not leaving myself enough time to practice questions. My pass formula = Cover the material during the first few months and then spend the final few months doing questions, practicing exams and reviewing only those topics that I answered incorrectly or guessed.
2009 L1-pass 2010 L2-band 10 2011 L2- pass my band 10 fail I studied 600 hours total using only Schweser. Did very little mock questions but drilled on flash cards/ qbank like I did for level 1. I blame my fail on using the same study materials as I did for level 1. This go around I read the entire CFAI curriculum, did all EOC 2 and sometimes 3 times, and did the 2011 mock exam. I put in close to 700 hours and kept a spreadsheet of my EOC results so that I would know what areas to focus on. My advice. Use CFAI curriculum and as painful as it is, master all the EOC questions and pay attention to every sentence in the material. If you have to read over a paragraph for an hour because it just doesn’t make sense, do it!
