OFFICIAL CFA LEVEL 1 RESULTS - DEC 2011

wooohooooo! the wait after the exam was a pain . nonetheless enjoy your drinks. cheers everybody. as for me i think i just passed it somehow. but a pass is a pass. lets get the june 2012 ball rolling very soon( just after the hangover ceases)!

This is exactly what I have been waiting for and craving all my life: invaluable “real world” lessons presented by iteracom on the Analyst Forum. I don’t even know how your outlook switched from discussing people’s “real world” efforts to the kind of jobs we have. Missing a few frames of reference there? As Mike “The Situation” would say… there are a lot of god damn grenades on this forum. SMH.

hi guys, I need your opinion on that one - should I go for the exam score retabulation, or rather save the €100? I did quite some erasing during the exam, and am just wondering whether it could be that the erased answers were taken by the system as the right ones - because I could never fully erase my initial answer. I am in band 10. Here my score again: Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 8 * - - - Corporate Finance 20 - - * - Derivatives 12 - * - - Economics 24 - * - - Equity Investments 24 * - - - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - * - - Financial Reporting & Analysis 48 - - * - Fixed Income Investments 28 - * - - Portfolio Management 12 - - * - Quantitative Methods 28 - * - Thanks for your advice!

Really sorry. Sometimes even best of the efforts go in vain. Even when you are so pissed off and still don’t want to give up shows your strength. One of my older cousin took 9years to complete CA. He had been written off by every single person who knew him, calling him dumb, stupid, not cut for numbers and what not. Even his parents asked him to not waste more time and try for a different career. He never gave up and kept trying every single time. Now he is a partner in a firm and the people who used to laugh at him earns less annually than what he does monthly. Its just believing in yourself.

Dec 2010: Your score band: 9 Alternative Investments 8 * - - Corporate Finance 20 - * - Derivatives 12 * - - Economics 24 - - * Equity Investments 24 - * - Ethical & Professional Stands 36 - * - Financial Reporting & Analysis 48 - * - Fixed Income Investments 28 - * - Portfolio Management 12 - - * Quantitative Methods 28 - - * Dec 2011: PASS Alternative Investments 8 - - * Corporate Finance 20 - - * Derivatives 12 - - * Economics 24 - - * Equity Investments 24 - * - Ethical & Professional Stands 36 - - * Financial Reporting & Analysis 48 - - * Fixed Income Investments 28 - * - Portfolio Management 12 - * - Quantitative Methods 28 - - * Now I need to figure out a way to find time to prepare for L2!! Damn, just got my life back now it is back to the books!

I was not able to pass the L1 Dec exam. I wanted to know if to go for a re-tabulation or not. I did rubbed many questions and remarked them, does CFA takes this into account that if machine is not working then a human must check? Can there be a problem in the scanning machine I gave 2 Procore tests and 2 biif tests invigilated test in class and got 60-65% accuracy. In the real exam I got band 6. Results show that I got less in FI, derivatives and corp in which my accuracy has been 70% in schz and full tests. My weak subjects are FSA and Eco in which I am 50-70%. I did all papers from 2009-2011 released by CFA and also did the 40 USD test you gave so I left no question type uncovered. I need your suggestions regarding what to do now, or you think I must do more practice and give exam again in June.

Congratulations to all who passed the Level 1 exam… see you in the level 2 forums  For those who dint pass… There is alway June 12… give it your best shot then… and im sure ur pass!

Passed… Alt inv: <=50 CF, Eth, FI, Der: 51-70 Rest: >70 Was my 1st attempt - i did 3mths of weekend study and 3 schweser papers + CFAI mock … was scoring 73-78 … guessing my score in exam was around 70ish though… surprised abt CF and FI as they are work related… will have to work harder for level 2!! - back to study on weekends fk

Passed. Alt <=50 E, Q = 51-70 All others >70 **only used Schweser and QBank, never even opened the CFAI materials (except practice exams). Scored high 80s on practice exams and Qbank consistently before the actual exam.

Passed with 5 70%+ and 5 51%-70%, I am glod to have such results as I have just studied for 10 days

passed - tho cant believe it…my june score card where i slipped in SB 10 looks better with more > 70!!!

now which material (other than CFA) shd I opt for Lvl 2? has to be sure shot and best VFM

Two things here confuse me. Iteracom’s comments were more liken to constructive criticism than oysters post, and this kid should think long and hard about whether or not he should continue. An extra 300+ hours and his relative score goes down? At the very least he should think about how he’s preparing. Also the insult at the end… Are you saying it’s a good thing to be a guido? Or a bad thing? I just don’t follow

I can’t imagine that it’s ever a good thing to be considered a guido, as for as NY/NJ goes.

Hey guys, I’m looking for some constructive comments/criticism on my failed dec 2011 exam results below: Alt Invertments: 51% - 70% Corp Fin: <=50% Derivatives: 51% - 70% Econ: 51% - 70% Equities: >70% Ethics: >70% FRA: 51% - 70% Fixed income: 51% - 70% Portfolio Mgmt: 51% - 70% Quant: <=50% Band: 10 I put in about 250 hours into the exam. I have 6 months of fund accounting experience. BA in econ, recently graduated in May. How much more time do you think is necessary for me to pass in june? Also, what is the most effective way to study quant? I think its def my weakest point. Any comments are much appreciated. Thanks!

Not to be a pain in the butt, but finance is a profession that draws the most intelligent people from all other disciplines and corners of the globe. It’s hyper competitive and you are really competing with the cream of the brain crop. If CFA L1, a memorization exam without tricks, is causing so much trouble, then maybe should reevaluate if one has a natural aptitude for the subject. In high school, college, and grad school I’ve encountered things I really wanted to do, and tried hard, but it just wasn’t working out or was gonna work out. Gotta forget the sunk costs and see the big picture.

Thanks Broberts, it’s good to know there are people with intelligence on this forum, instead of emotional crazies like Oyster who can’t even make a decent argument. Then he has to throw in an insult at the end? Incredibly immature. So, I didn’t bother replying to him.

^ Exactly. Spending 300+ hours studying for a test is a lot of time that can be spent doing other things. The CFA charter is NOT a guaranteed meal ticket, and many people wrongly view it this way. Passing L1 L2 or L3 will NOT instantly open a door to a great job. Just go to the L3 forum and see the many people talk about how they passed L3 and still nothing. So, if you are just bad at test taking or for whatever reason you are really struggling with L1, take some time to seriously reconsider if you are going to keep going at it, because L2 and L3 are far more difficult. L1 is the 3 ft deep kiddie pool. seriously

I hate it when people who drop out keep pressing others to drop out of the race too! Passing CFA exams of course will not instantly give anyone a good job but it shows that the person has a serious commitment and interest in the area of finance. This area is not a cup of tea for everyone, and only those who seriously have a passion to break through into this field deserve to be given the opportunity to join this prestigious profession. By putting in hundreds of hours of self study and pass the rigorous exams, one show that not only he has the ability to work well in the financial industry but also has the passion to stay on in this career. Many bright people out there who graduated from Ivy League universities failed the exam, it is not because they are not smart enough, but because they are not persistent enough and do not have strong enough commitment to be successful in this field. So yes, those who feels they do not have enough strength to go on this rough road should drop out and do not try to persuade others to do the same, afterall you are just a loser or in other word not suitable for this job.

Hi Guys, i unfortunately did not pass…score band 10…a bit devasted but such is life…June 2011 i was in band 7…so i guess that a bit of an improvement… Multiple Choice Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 8 - - * - Corporate Finance 20 * - - - Derivatives 12 * - - - Economics 24 - * - - Equity Investments 24 * - - - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - * - - Financial Reporting & Analysis 48 - - * - Fixed Income Investments 28 - * - - Portfolio Management 12 - * - - Quantitative Methods 28 - * - I come from a finance background.I passed all my CIMA exams at first attempt…was top student in the country in one or 2 subject at every level…and then came CFA…which when you dont pass …sort of makes you wonder…but anyway i am not gonna quit…i feel i just need to change my strategy a bit…i have decided to retake the exams in Dec 2012…to give me more time…since clearly studying for 250hrs plus with a full time job does not help much…do you guys have any suggestions on what material to use? i was using the Allen Resources Que Bank,Schwerser Videos and ofcourse the CFA books. PS…To all those who did not pass…dont get discouraged when you fail, and dont throw in the towel and quit either…If you want CFA that bad…you will get it…SO GOOD LUCK!, Cheers!
