"Open Floorplans" at Work

A) When did they start showing nipples in YouTube videos?

B) The embedded image of said video shows a nipple, and is therefore NSFW.

C) I would actually have an easier time explaining regular topless pictures to my boss than an image of a woman breastfeeding. The chick does look pretty decent though.

D) I don’t really have a point other than you should probably take down the video and just post a link with a NSFW disclaimer in case someone works in an “open floor plan” (see what I did there?) and people walk by and see this image.

^Fair enough. 1 Point to office.

I’m thirsty.

Nah… It stems from the fact that the show is run by rich middle aged men with stay at home wives who just don’t get it.

If you look historically, there has always been a very good and logical reason to keep the status quo when it comes to change in women (and minorities for that matter) rights such as voting etc. Every milestone was a fight, but it eventually happened.

Introducing the actual maternity (not meager disability) leave is just another milestone that has to and will happen in US. Everyone will adjust and life will go on. People just need to get over it.

No worries. I’ll do your work for no compensation while you are on leave.

That was a surprise; I enjoyed the punchline. Point taken.

I’m actually not against maternity leave per one of my early posts. The us would need some stipulations, however.

that girl’s foot at the end was puzzling. Reflex, sense of humor or concussion?

This shows obvious cultural insensitivity to breastfeeding women. Nipples are a natural part of breastfeeding, which should be viewed and enjoyed by all. Have you not seen the new barrage of videos making its way around Facebook?

You, sir, are a hateful bigot and need to take gender sensitivy training.

My guess is that’s her way of indicating she is fine. I bet that’s not her first fall like that

Corporations can afford the cost. It’s in society’s overall interest that educated professional women returned to the workforce and not been pushed out of their careers because they… gasp… wanted to stay with their newborns for longer than three short months (at best)

If the kid isn’t self-sufficient and a productive member of society by the end of maternity leave, he’s a loser. Why should society give newborns an incentive to just slack off and hang at the teat of Government, oops, I meant mom.

A friend of mine quit his job to raise children. That was the plan when he married his wife. What do they get? I agree the sacrifice shouldn’t always fall on the female. That should be between you and your partner. The idea that I should sacrifice so someone else can “have it all” doesn’t compute. Do you feel men should get equal paternity leave? Maybe I’ll have eight kids. I’m sure my co-workers won’t mind.

The higher GDP per capita might indeed be a result of freer markets with fewer social programs and less government meddling. However, I would argue that the high GDP per capita combined with a highly unequal distribution points to a very wealthy minority and a vast majority that hopes to win the Powerball but would ultimately be better off in a different system. Again, I am not saying one system is superior to the other, but higher GDP per se may not be the be-all and end-all.

My initial question was, could the US economy and its competitiveness actually benefit from a more generous approach to maternity leave? I think maybe yes. After all half the work force would be better integrated in the labor market if women are supported and may return to their careers more easily.

And I have no idea what “corporations can afford the cost” means. Care to explain?

I agree with that.

When I look at all the places the US dumps money, I hardly think maternity leave would be the worst offense. On a social level it does level the playing field some and I imagine would help more out of wedlock relationships survive.

I just feel I should take care of my own affairs. My kid, my responsibility. Let’s at least make sure the stay at home parent gets a transfer payment as well.

First, I’m dubious about the unsubstantiated claim that corporations can afford the cost.

Second, even if Goldman Sachs, Alphabet, and Exxon can afford the cost, does that mean that Greenman’s Tax Service can afford the cost? Do you believe that I make enough money to afford to hire two receptionists? One to do nothing and the other to work?

If the government ever mandates that I pay women to do nothing, then I’m going to include two questions on every application:

  1. Have you gone through menopause?
  2. Have you had a histerectomy? (sp?)

If you answered “No” to both questions above, please forward your application to our shredding department for processing. We will contact you within 30-40 years. Thank you for your interest.

Are we all in agreement that this is a valid reason why women are paid less than men?

I know it’s hard to tell sometimes, but I am being serious.

There could be a reasonable mix of government/corporate funding depending on the company size etc. Everything can worked out given the desire to do so.
