I think in my situation it is more a matter of how long things can function effectively without me around. I’d like to take a good amount of unpaid time, just good to get a sense of what other people are doing and I can get an idea of what I want to propose.
Dads not taking paternity leave because they want to appear macho or hardcore doesn’t really make sense to me. Honestly, if I got fired I would just go get another job and let them explain to all of the clients what happened.
Looking back on it, that was a mistake. (But then again, actually going to work for those idiots was a mistake.) I’m not necessarily sad that I did it, but I’m sad that it did it for the jokers I was working with. They were completely ungrateful.
The idea of just “going to get another job” is good in theory. But in practice, I had already burned through three jobs in three years (through no fault of mine, but it’s hard to tell that to a recruiter). And I live in a small town, so there aren’t that many openings.
My company gives a week of paid leave for new fathers. When my old boss had his first kid, he was back in the office for half days after only 2-3 days, he said because it was more relaxing at the office.
Exactly what benefits are you asking for, Alphie? Another stupid and baseless comment coming from you – but at least you’re consistent. (From the bottom of my heart, the world is **SO VERY GLAD** you made the choice not to reproduce.)
well purealpha, we don’t get paternity leave, but we get unlimited freedom to do things with females that married men have given up. In addition, you didn’t strap on another chain and ball on your leg by having a kid.
All this freedom traded for a one time 2 -3 week paid out of office? I’d say we come out way ahead on this one.
