I actually watched the first part of this movie just to see what Ohai was talking about. And yes, they definitely portrayed it as a shithole. But then again–they only showed one dude living in a trailer in the middle of nowhere.
Better movies than that include “No Country for Old Men” and “Friday Night Lights”. Granted, neither one is Midland, but they both feature Odessa, which is only about 15 miles away. It’s a little more blue-collar than Midland is. (Think–Midland is NYC and Odessa is New Jersey.)
