Prayers, if you please

^ That was the right thing to do. No HCB will ever love you like your mom.

Dude, there is a time and place for tickling someone.

In seriousness, good to know all is well.

Bump. Any good news from Magician?

She saw our doctor today, and he said it would be at least another two weeks in the Xena boot, then an x-ray to see how her foot’s healing.

Her ribs are still tender, but not nearly as painful as they were. She can laugh, hiccough, and sneeze without it sending her through the roof, and she’s nearly back to cornering the Odyssey like Maria Andretti.

Thanks for asking, Greenman! I really appreciate everyone’s prayers and good wishes.

An update: as of a week ago Saturday, Marlana’s back to riding. Naturally, the first day she overdid it a bit. (She forgot that, in addition to healing from injuries, she hadn’t been riding for six weeks; there’s a lot more to riding than merely sitting atop a horse.) She’s doing quite well. Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes. Her ribs aren’t sore at all, but her foot’s still a little tender. A little more time and she’ll be back up to scratch. Thanks again!

Great news, glad to hear she’s healthy and back out on the horse.

Get her a western saddle

Glad to know she has recovered…

Very happy to know Magician… Cheers!

Hers _ is _ a western saddle.

Good to hear things are healing up well.

hoping for a speedy recovery.

wish you and your family Good Health

Thanks a million, guys!

Do we have an update on this, nine months later?

Wife and horse both doing well.

She’s learned that she cannot ride a 10-year-old gelding the way she rode her 31-year-old mare.

These days, she generally takes him to the local arena and works off the sillies in the round pen before riding him; he does much better that way.

Glad to hear your wife is doing well Magician.

I have low exposure to equestrianism, what is the average lifespan of a horse?

It depends on the breed; like dogs, bigger breeds are generally shorter-lived than smaller breeds.

We have Arabians; it’s not unusual for them to live to be 40. Large breeds (e.g., Clydesdales, Shires, Percherons) probably rarely make it to 30.

My gelding’s 25 and still going like champ. The only reason we lost our mare two years ago was the she got a viral infection that weakened her immune system, then a bacterial infection that she couldn’t fight. (If we’d known better, we’d have given her antibiotics when she got the original infection.) Five days before she passed away – between infections – she was trotting and cavorting like a 6-year-old.

^A gelding? He most not be from a Top 2 breeder, then. Ere he would still be a stallion.

I wish that he were a stallion; he’d make an awesome sire.

A few years ago a cousin of his won the Tevis Cup.
