Reasons to hate NYC

someone pointing a needle at you in the subway and yelling, “Do you know what it feels like to live w/ Hepititis??”

the mets attempting to use the all-star game attendance to bolster regular season numbers

Try living in London… :frowning:

Someone learned misanthrope today… This is a thinly veiled diatribe due to his rejection by NYC, i.e he didn’t get a job there. Sucks for you. You also probably hang out in Murray Hill or the shitstain that is midtown… KYS

I tire of NYC when: A) I take the subway in the morning and all the seats are taken by low income families/overweight females, and worse, males B) I get hit up for change by pan-handlers C) When I’m in Soho/Midtown/etc… and get caught in the middle of a bunch of tourists D) When I go to dinner and I hear all the pretentious/obnoxious foodies and watch them take pictures of said preparation (btw- does every Asian woman have a food blog these days?) BTW- there are no secrets in NY anymore; do you really think you’re special cause you have a key to ‘Milk & Honey’ or PDT or you go to this cool out of the way Montreal cuisine place in LIC, Queens called M. Wells? EVERYONE is on Midtownlunch.com, Eater NY, Grub Street, etc… E) NYU kids in the LES/East Village (need I say more) F) Invasion of Jersey greasers in MEPA I can keep going on… But! I miss NY whenever I’m anywhere else for a couple of days!!! /rant

Keys Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- A) I take the subway in the morning and all the seats are taken by low income families/overweight females, and worse, males It’s called “public transportation” for a reason. Everyone has the right to take it. With that comment you sound just as pretentious/obnoxious as the foodies you hate. If you don’t want to mix with the lowly masses, I suggest you cab it to work. But for now that $2.25 puts you right at the same level of the food chain as everyone else.

Europeans and their Abercrombie and Fitch bags man, this sounds like Ed Norton in that Spike Lee movie

OK - yes d*_k post; I got it -> I was thinking sloven individuals. Bad mental association tied to socio-economic standing; will recalibrate. Born in Queens, came back to Manhattan but grew up in Toronto (& Oakville). Must be the Canadian pickle up my bud…!

Keys Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Get a job grouch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i73dWYJqVHk ^haha, I love that bit - esp. the Count as a pmp. Yea, I’ve seen more than a few posts on here where people denounce others with less means as lowly/lazy or having bad character. From my experience, it’s often those who have the least to give that have shown to be the most generous, helpful people I know. I also knew this girl with substantial means in a school club who insisted on getting reimbursed for the tiniest expenses and kept track of every penny. It was gross. Anyway - not saying that being poor makes you a good person or vice versa. I just think some people in this forum could do well by going outside their gated communities once in a while without fear of getting “poor cooties”.

As a real New Yorker (born and raised), I agree with the “Reasons to hate NYC” list. Have any of you ever been to Singapore? It’s got the good parts of NYC baked into a tropical island atmosphere.

So yes, I ended up working in NYC after bschool. I live in an ok 450 sqf convertible 1br walk up on UES now (those letters should make sense to craigslist apt hunters). I lived in NYC before school as well for several years. Unfortunately, I had this dream of being in high finance when I was a wee little lad (watched too much Family Ties) and haven’t been wise enough to call it quits yet. at least the money is good and it’s intellectually challenging. too bad everyone is a douche bag. I thought about a few things to add to the list like my neighbor with 5 barking dogs…but the original is fairly comprehensive.
