Lawyer from Germany here. Passed, all areas > 70 %. It really all comes down to putting in the hours.
I’m from Malaysia and an engineering graduate with less than a year of working experience. Passed with all topics > 70%. Only used Schweser books, Qbank, Schweser and CFAI mocks. Good enough for L1 I feel. Cheers.
Anish from Chennai India All subjects above 70 % … except ethics 51 to 70 % …congrats to all who passed …c ya in l2
Passed from Wichita, Kansas! Anyone planning on sitting for the CAIA in September? Hoping to knock out two certifications in 3 years…
Hello Everyone!!! I paaassed! I scored > 70 on all, except Econ, Ethics & Quant. Special thanks again to bapswarrior! Thank you for the link with the calculator guide that you posted here in the beginning of January, it made my life so much easier ! Congrats to all who passed and to those who did not, do not get discouraged, if this is what you want, you have to try again!
Passed. From Maryland. Used Schweser Notes, Schweser Practice Exams (just Vol 1), CFAI mock exam. Averaged low- to high-70’s on practice exams. 50-70% in PM. 71%+ in everything else.
Passed from Minneapolis. > 70 on all
It seems like successful candidates are overrepresented in this forum. I guess those who did not pass are inclined not to release the information. So I guess we shouldnt think that being part of the forum increases our chances of passing in any way.
Passed in Toronto, all >70% It’s my 2nd time taking level 1. Got band 8 last December. In Dec. exam, I felt really challenged in the afternoon session. This time around, the flow was much better, it’s almost like there was a solution model in my head and I just had to apply without much thinking. I didn’t read much of the CFAI textbooks, did the questions after each reading as well as the CFA sample exam. Also wanted to encourage those who didn’t pass. It’s just a time game, make sure you take notes when you study, and do LOTS of questions.
Passed. New York. Start doing EOC questions while reading. Its helps a lot to retain. L1 is a test of how much you can retain. Damn quant. Failed. Band 10. I was combining it with an MSc Finance programme, a french language course while working a 9 to 5 job, not an excuse though. I’m also a first-timer, I will leave it for now and come back to it after concluding my masters. Congrats to those that passed, I wish you good luck in L2. I live in Manhattan but took the exam at Pace in Westchester as I wanted to avoid the city craziness so I could build the focus… - Alternative Investments 8 - - * - Corporate Finance 20 - - * - Derivatives 12 - - * - Economics 24 - - * - Equity Investments 24 - - * - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - - * - Financial Reporting & Analysis 48 - - * - Fixed Income Investments 28 - - * - Portfolio Management 12 - - * - Quantitative Methods 28 - - * For those who may be interested, here are some tips: What I did: 1- Understood that there are no short cuts 2- Focused on the CFA books and their questions which are written in a way no test provider can write (ie when one reads the question one should never be left wondering what that means - in other words if this happens its A otherwise its B - a properly written question will never leave the reader questioning the question!) 3- Used Schweser notes as supplementary material and always referred back to the main literature 4- Reperformed all CFA end of chapter questions in the last few days 5- Relaxed on the last day and prayed What I did not do: 1- Never really focused on Schweser questions or how many I was getting right (but still did those at the end of their chapters) 2- Did not use any other provider 3- Never even got myself into the whole secret sauce thing (the best sauce is at the end of the CFA books) 4- Did not find the need for any mock exams and never took any before the exam - instead I used that time to revise (didn’t even take the CFA mock exam as its offered online and I cannot read on computer for a long time - it hurts my eyes and hence my performance) 5- On the exam day decided not to focus on all the hot chicks that came to the test center at Pace as if they were getting ready to go out clubbing!
